Hey friends, a message re: this summer’s Oregon Brewers Festival. As of right now, the festival is still happening as scheduled. We recognize this is an evolving situation and we will continue to update you with any changes. In the meantime, please continue to support your local breweries, beer bars and bottle shops. We need to make sure they’re still here when this crisis is over. We hope to raise a pint together soon. Take care, stay safe, and wash your hands!

Let’s make a beer! The Oregonian/OregonLive and Labrewatory collaborate on #FakeBrews IPA
Ever wondered what it’s like to make a beer?
Yeah, me too. So, I’m going to do just that.
I figured if I’m going to write about and critique beer and breweries, I should have a hands-on understanding of the process, its complexities and its challenges. And I figured readers might want to know how it’s all done, too.
So I reached out to Nick Herrera, the head brewer at North Portland’s Labrewatory to see if he’d be willing to pair up with The Oregonian/OregonLive and do a beer collaboration – an endeavor I know very little about.
In early 2019, Andre Meunier started a tour of Portland breweries with two goals.
One, get to know the Portland beer scene more deeply to strengthen his coverage of it. And two, provide a comprehensive resource for craft-beer enthusiasts for where to go and what to try.

Less than two years after unmanageable debt and a bank foreclosure forced San Diego-based Green Flash Brewing to sell to a holding company, auction off its $20 million expansion brewery in Virginia Beach, close its Southern California barrel-aging facility, and pull beer distribution from 42 states to concentrate on its home and neighboring markets, the brewery that helped pioneer the industry-transforming west coast IPA style has quietly returned to the eastern seaboard. Samuel Adams released its exclusive Utopias beer to select locations yesterday, the collection is so rare, only 100 casks were made and it’s illegal in 15 states. Each beer is barrel-aged and hand-bottled, the brewing company calls it “America’s most extreme beer.” It contains 28 percent alcohol by volume and it sells for $210 a bottle. Due to its high 28 percent ABV content, the Utopias collection is illegal in Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia.
For more information on the beer you can visit the Samuel Adams website here.
