An Alternative History of Chicha, the Ancient Peruvian Corn Beer (Not) Made With Human Saliva
Chicha de jora, or “chicha”, is a corn-based brew originating in southern Peru. Ancient in origin, found on street corners and in municipal markets in the Andean regions of Peru and Bolivia. There vendors pour it in repurposed plastic soda bottles to go, or ladle it into pint glasses for passersby to guzzle on the sidewalk.
In early 2019, Andre Meunier started a tour of Portland breweries with two goals.
One, get to know the Portland beer scene more deeply to strengthen his coverage of it. And two, provide a comprehensive resource for craft-beer enthusiasts for where to go and what to try.

From an outstanding group of talented applicants, Annie Johnson of PicoBrew (Seattle, WA) has been named recipient of the 2020 American Brewers Guild scholarship. Annie will be attending ABG’s Intensive Brewing Science & Engineering course that runs from January to June 2020. The Intensive Brewing Science & Engineering course is a 22-week distance education program with a final week of residential instruction in Middlebury, VT. The course covers all the fundamentals of beer production and quality assurance with a special emphasis on practical issues.
