A couple of beers new to the shelves:
– Mendocino Brewing has released “Limited Edition Summer Seasonal White Ale.” Unfiltered and cloudy, it “features
a thirst quenching blend of sweet orange peel and the subtle spiciness of coriander, topped off with a delicate twist of lemon.”
– Flying Fish Farmhouse Summer Ale is back for the 12th summer. It’s brewed with Belgian two-row pale malt and 7% wheat, lightly filtered, and has a earthy, spicy character from Styrian Goldings hops.
Better yet, grab some Avery White Rascal, Southampton Double White or Weyerbacher Blanche. Flying Fish is a little better than Sam Adams, but not by much. . .
I just bought a six pack of the Mendocino White Ale for $7 here in Chicago, and it is absolutely awful. It has terrible sour notes and reeks of strong yet rotten lemon. It also has chunks of sediment floating in it.
I love white ales, but would steer clear of this one.
