“Zwickelmania® has been a staple event for the Guild for over a decade and we are very excited to be able to transition back to in-person this year,” shared Christina LaRue, Executive Director of the Oregon Brewers Guild. “We made the pivot last year to an online platform, offering virtual brewery tours and panel discussions with brewers via Zoom and social media. Our members are looking forward to being able to offer guests an in-person experience and will be ensuring the safety of the public, as well as their teams is a top priority.”

Oregon Craft Beer Month – Zwickelmania Goes Virtual

The month of February usually brings two of the Oregon Brewers Guild’s favorites: Oregon Craft Beer Month and its annual Zwickelmania open house-style event. Unfortunately, as the pandemic and state restrictions carry on, holding in-person events is still not an option. The good news is the Guild will be holding virtual Zwickelmania events, as well as releasing the fourth iteration of their State of Excitement collaboration beer.
In an effort to help highlight Oregon Craft Beer Month, throughout February the Guild will be promoting its member breweries from across the state via their social media outlets. Origin stories, photos, beer releases, as well as food & beer specials will be the main focus.
The virtual Zwickelmania events will coincide with the original in-person dates

OR – OBG Launches Collaboration Series

OREGON BREWERS GUILD LAUNCHES QUARTERLY COLLABORATION SERIES WITH STATE OF EXCITEMENT NO. 2
How do you collaborate on a beer during a global pandemic?
Very carefully.
Twenty-seven Oregon’s breweries recently united to brew a statewide collab, State of Excitement No. 2, a hazy IPA brewed at Portland’s Baerlic Beer Co. The beer release marks the launch of the Guild’s quarterly collaboration series, which builds on the fun everyone had cranking out the Zwickelmania beer the past two Februaries.
“Collaborations are a little different right now, but I suppose just about everything is,” said Baerlic Beer Co. Brewer Stephen Helwig, who led the charge on brewday. “Fortunately, the modern miracle of the internet helped us to communicate, stay organized, and craft a damn delicious beer that shows off the best ingredients Oregon has to offer.”

2020 Oregon Brewers Festival Cancelled

Press release from OBF:
Dear Friends of the Oregon Brewers Festival,

We are devastated to share that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Oregon Brewers Festival, originally scheduled for this July 22-25. This will be the first time in 33 years that the iconic July event will not take place.

This decision was not made lightly. At the onset of the COVID-19 virus, we were hopeful that the situation might resolve itself by late July. But the health and safety of our guests, vendors, staff and volunteers is our top priority, and we have decided the risk of holding the festival is too great. The Oregon Brewers Festival is attended by thousands of visitors from all over the world. The last thing we would want to do is hold an event that could contribute to the spread of the virus and potentially introduce a second wave of infections.

It’s important for us to make sure that when the festival returns next year, it does so in a way that’s safe and ensures our guests feel secure. We will spend this downtime carefully planning on how to hold a successful event in a post-pandemic world.

The Oregon Brewers Festival will return July 28-31, 2021. In the meantime, we urge you to support your local craft breweries and cider makers; place orders for curbside pickup or delivery and follow them on social media for the latest news on how to help. It has been estimated that up to 46% of craft breweries may be forced to close due to the pandemic. The Oregon Brewers Festival is a celebration of craft beer, and we need to make sure our breweries are still standing when this crisis has passed.

Until then, stay safe, be kind, and wash your hands. Cheers!
