Another gluten-free beer becomes available in April. Bard’s Tale initially will be sold in 11 states, and company co-founder Craig Belser hopes to be nationwide in 12 to 18 months. Although other gluten-free beers already are being marketed, Belser said these beers are honey- or corn syrup-based and don’t taste like traditional beer.
Belser, who lives in Kansas, and Kevin Seplowitz, from Connecticut, first launched the brand more than a year ago, but had production problems in the Buffalo brewery where it is made. It will now be contract brewed in California, though Belser said he hopes to eventually build a brewery in Leawood, Kan.

i had it. not so good. greens is a better beer but its not sold in the u.s. i have to go back home to london to get it. also there is an aussie beer but i dont know that name of that one. dont know if you can get it in the states.

You can get a pretty good tasting gluten free beer from a chain of liquor stores in Rocester, Minnesota called Apollo Liquor. The beer is called New Ghrist (hope I have the spelling correct) made from Sorghum and Rice. ***NOTE: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ASK FOR THE KIND THAT HAS BOTH SORGHUM AND RICE. The plain Sorghum (without rice) is the OLD version and it is not as good as the new version. I am quite certain they will mail it to you if you speak to the manager at the larger of the four stores.
Regarding Bards Tale beer, the reason that people haven’t found it in the market is because they recalled it. It is due out again soon; they’re going to get it right.
There was just an article on gluten free beer in either the June or May “Living Without” magazine. Basically, the two beers I mentioned are “it” for the U.S. Canada has LaMessingier (spelling probably wrong).
I was just in Milwaukee this weekend and tried the New Grist beer. AMAZING!! I also spoke to the guy in charge of distributing said beer. They’re working on a nationwide release. I live in PA and it should be here by the end of July. It’s served at a few place in Milwaukee. I actually had my first beer in years for my birthday, it was great!!! I found New Grist in the West Hartford CT Whole foods supermarket. Per the manager, in CT New Grist is currently the only GF Beer the can get through traditional distribution. It’s good and cost $9.99 a six. Worth the money, tastes like a micro beer, lighter than Sam Adams… Would love to find it on tap!
I miss beer!! My husband and I have been trying everything possible to find Gluten free beer for me. We live in PA and until recently did not know of anyone who sold it in PA. Also, the distributors in nearby states did not carry a GF-beer. Today we got information that they are now selling Bard’s Tale Dragon’s Gold beer in Pennsylvania. The website is http://www.gallibeer.com. The company is in New Kensington, PA. I just emailed them to see if they would ship it to my home. At this point, I’d pay almost anything to taste beer again. If you are ever in Duluth MN, they have 2 brands of gluten free beer (New Grist and Bard’s) at Warehouse Liquor and they are trying to get more, possibly an English ale soon.
I have only had the chance to try New Grist.
I must say, I find it best for baking with, since I do not find the taste anything like the “real” beers that I used to be able to consume. I keep hoping someone makes a really tasty one – perhaps getting a bit more creative with the grain combinations they use.

Don’t be suprised (if you happen to find cashwizz liquor in duluth) that they won’t have any gluten free beer or many micros/imports if you can find anything in that mess! & no one there will know what gluten free is! They are a BIG CHAIN store and don’t really care!!! Just ask little danny erickson, one of their clerks and cleanup people. If he hasn’t been fired yet.

I am a little disappointed in Mr. Mallow. Blogs are to discuss products not insult businesses or people. It is not appropriate to bad mouth customers of his, I used to shop at his store till Cash Wise came to town, or other liquor stores. I do not work at Cash Wise, but from now on I will tell everyone that Cash Wise is the best store in Northern Minnesota to buy Gluten free beer and other beverages. Their staff is extremely knowledgable on their products (which has the biggest selection of beer, liquor and wine in Northern Minnesota, Mr. Mallows store would fit into their bathroom) and the staff is also very friendly and helpful. If anyone is given the chance to go to Duluth, you will be impressed with the selection of gluten free beers and many other micro’s and imports at Cash Wise Liquor. Happy drinking to all!
Cashwise Liquor – The store to go for cheap beer that’ll get you drunk. How do I know? Cause Duluth is full of college kids and I’m one of them. If you ever want REAL beer that tastes good AND is gluten free, go see Warehouse Liquor. If, however, you wanna get drunk for cheap, go to cashwise.
Budwieser makes a gluten free beer called Redbridge. It is pretty good, and goes down way too easliy. I like making snake bites with it….a snake bite 1/2 cider (apple or pear) and 1/2 beer. Very refreshing!
I have been searching for a gluten free beer and I found some at Warehouse liquor and it was 6 months out of date. I was very upset that it was still on the shelf. After further research, I noticed that most of the beer is out of date. I now shop at either Cash Wise Liquor or at Keyport in Wis. I have heard rumors that Cash Wise will be expanding its micro and import section in the up coming months. I hope so, they really seem to know what they are doing, great service, low prices, and so far – fresh beer.
Sounds to me like every employee at the big chain store cashwizz has been paid to pump their image up. My suggestion – visit both wizz & warehouse & make your own decision!
