MI Brewers Guild Publishes Annual Magazine & Map

PR – The Michigan Brewers Guild has just released the 2020 edition of its annual publication, Michigan. The Great Beer State. The 72-page magazine includes stories about the creativity and consistency behind brewing; beer quality tips for consumers; and how member breweries give-back in big and small ways around Michigan.
A highlight of the publication is the pull-out map and listings for 293 member brewery locations spread out throughout Michigan’s two peninsulas (up from 281 in last year’s issue).
“We look forward to the Great Beer State magazine every year,” says Scott Graham, the Guild’s executive director. “It is always fun to review the brewery listings, map and other information in a printed format that you can hold in your hands and turn the pages.”
The 80,000 copies of the magazine have been distributed to member breweries, Michigan welcome centers, chambers of commerce and visitor bureaus, retail locations and other beer-supporting businesses around the state. A flip-book version is also available online at MiBeer.com (under resources). An additional 10,000 copies of the pull-out map were also printed.

Where you can order beer to-go in Houston

HOUSTON – With the news that dine-in service would be prohibited due to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a temporary waiver that allows restaurants to include alcohol beverages in takeout and delivery orders.
All alcohol included in takeout or delivery orders must be sold in the original container that was sealed by the manufacturer of the beverage, according to the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission.
Under the relaxed policy, the customer must not be intoxicated and must present valid proof of their identity that confirms they are at least 21 years old when the order is delivered.
According to TABC, there is no required food-to-alcohol ratio.
EaterHouston compiled a list of all restaurants offering cocktail kits, wine, and beer deliveries in Houston.

Social Drinking in a World of Social Distancing

In the era of social distancing, many drinkers are leaning into technology to stay connected with friends and loved ones. From virtual happy hours to online wine classes, and teleconferenced game nights to an Instagram Live nightclub, we’re finding new ways to socialize over a glass (or two) with our social circles even when we can’t be in the same place.

Newsletter from our friends at Bear Republic Brewing

Dear Friends and Family,
At Bear Republic Brewing Co., we feel great responsibility for the role we play in the lives of our guests for over 25 years—even more important to us during this difficult time when we are all being more cautious about how we engage with our guests and the community.

Many of you have called to see if the Bear Republic is open, and at this time, we are doing everything to provide great service and make you feel at home and safe. Governor Newsom mandated all restaurants to cut seating in half, which we are doing as well as spacing guests out so they are not within 6 feet of another table. We have a vast and large space, and a beautiful beer garden, so we can all spread out. In order to further protect our guests and staff, all food and beverage orders will be taken at the bar to limit everyone’s interaction.

We understand that you might feel more comfortable eating at home, we have a to go menu available on our website www.bearrepublic.com. We also have cold beer to go that can be picked up with your order. We are adding curb side service. Please call 707.585.2722 and press 0 to order your to go items.

Although we have no reason to believe that anyone infected with Coronavirus has been in our pub, we have taken additional steps to reduce any risks our guests and staff may face. We have always followed stringent health department regulations and have increased our frequency and rigor in our cleaning steps. Our team knows they have paid sick leave, and that they are expected to stay home if they are feeling ill. This protects everyone.
We are proactively suspending our children’s toys in the beer garden and board games in the pub. We have also postponed Bingo, Paint Night and Trivia. As any other changes arise, we will be communicating them in a timely manner.

We will continue to monitor all updates from county, state and Federal authorities and will continue to monitor the effectiveness of our mitigation procedures on a daily basis. Please take care to follow each of the precautionary steps to protect yourself and your family. Be sure to take home some Bear Republic bottles and cans from the grocery store, but please remember we will remain open and always appreciate your support. Above all, stay strong during this challenging time for our community.

Sincerely,
Marcin Furmankiewicz & the Bear Team
Pub General Manager

2 beers and a little science makes a slammable chicken

Let’s get to the bottom of why, exactly, booze elevates your dinner. To deepen our understanding, Roger Barth, a professor at West Chester University in Pennsylvania and the author of The Chemistry of Beer, commented on the authors plans to make a chicken following a recipe from famed Harlem restaurant Red Rooster, and he was warmly encouraging. The recipe uses BEER in two separate stages:
