Sapporo to Acquire Stone Brewing

Big news in the brewing industry as it was announced last night that Sapporo USA will acquire Stone Brewing of San Diego, Calif.

Stone Distribution Co. which distributes many craft brands throughout Southern California will not be part of the deal and will remain an intendent company.
Sapporo is the largest selling Asian beer in the U.S. and Stone is the 18th largest brewing company in the country with annual production of 326,281 barrels in 2021. It is the second major acquisition of a U.S. craft brewery for Sapporo with the purchase of Anchor Brewing in 2017.
“This is the right next chapter for Stone Brewing,” said Greg Koch, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of Stone Brewing in a press release. “For 26 years, our amazing team has worked tirelessly to brew beers that have set trends and redefined expectations. To have the interest of a company like Sapporo in continuing the Stone story is a testament to the great beers we’ve created and will continue to create for our fans across the globe.”
Sapporo will produce its Sapporo beers for U.S. distribution in Stone’s two breweries, in Escondido, California and Richmond, Virginia. Stone Brewing will continue to brew its beers at the two breweries, as well as operate its seven Tap Rooms and World Bistro & Gardens.

A guide to 21 Des Moines metro breweries and the bike trails closest to them

The craft brewery industry in the Des Moines area just keeps growing. Now 21 breweries call the region home.
In 1996, Court Avenue Brewing Co. opened its doors and remains the oldest in the metro area. Confluence and Exile celebrate a decade in business in 2022, and others such as 515 Brewing and Fox Brewing have stuck around. Just in the past two years, newcomers such as Lua, Kinship and 1717 opened to expand the craft brewery footprint in central Iowa.
The region’s not done with breweries quite yet. The newest trend brings established breweries such as Toppling Goliath, Big Grove, SingleSpeed and Backpocket to the area with taprooms opening in the next year.
Here’s a guide to the Des Moines-area producers making their mark on the local beer scene, pulling pints and filling growlers for those ready to move past domestic liter lagers. Bonus: We included the bike trails nearest them.

Craft Beer & Brewing: Breakout Brewer: Métier

In the Seattle suburb of Woodinville, the people behind Métier Brewing believe that great beer is a bridge to more equitable, connected communities. This year, they’re taking that mission to the masses.
Plenty of breweries say they want to help strengthen their communities, but few can show as much expertise, commitment, and follow-through in that area as Métier Brewing. Everything from where the beer is sold to who creates the artwork to the choice of general contractors reflects the brewery’s mission: “Brew damn good beer and build stronger community to inspire bigger dreams for all.”

Bear Republic explains how its solar system works

Bear Republic is in the upper echelon of craft breweries with sustainability commitments. To just run through a few things real quick: Flow meters and a plant-wide data collection make more efficient use of water (3.5 to 3.75 gallons of water to brew one gallon of beer). They have an anaerobic digester that cleans the brewery’s wastewater and generates biogas. Spent hops are strained and utilized as a soil amendment; spent brewer’s grain ends up as livestock feed.

Donate to the Michael Jackson Foundation Brewing Diversity Challenge Grant

ProBrewer and the MJF have combined forces to help bring diversity to American brewhouses. And thanks to the generosity of Brooklyn Brewery, donations received through May 1st will be matched in full by the brewery, up to $100,000. Please help us make the most of this challenge grant by donating to the MJF in the run-up to this year’s BA Craft Brewer’s Conference in Minneapolis.
What’s this “challenge grant”?
The Brooklyn Brewery has offered to fund a permanent endowment for the MJF with a dollar-for-dollar match on all donations made in the run-up to the Craft Brewer’s Conference (May 2nd – 5th, 2022). For every dollar you donate, Brooklyn Brewery will match your donation up to $100,000. This means that if you donate $25, the MJF receives $50; if you donate $2,500, the MJF gets $5k, etc. It’s really that simple… but it’s a challenge grant, so we only get these funds if the industry steps up to support us. We’re especially grateful to ProBrewer for partnering with us on this amazing opportunity to double the value of your donation. We can only do this with the support of people like you!
A diverse, inclusive and equitable brewing industry is a healthy brewing industry, and it’s what we all want to see. So please join ProBrewer and the MJF as we work with Brooklyn Brewery to help make this industry the kind of inviting place we always wanted it to be.
