After 25 years, Bear Republic Brewing Company plans to close its original brewpub location in Healdsburg, CA on November 22.
The other two locations, a main brewhouse in Cloverdale and a brewpub in Rohnert Park, will remain open.

Detroit Fall Beer Festival has a record number of breweries this year
A record 130 Michigan breweries will gather Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 at the historic Eastern Market in downtown Detroit for the 11th Annual Detroit Fall Beer Festival presented by the Michigan Brewers Guild. Collectively, this group of breweries will offer up more than 850 different beers for sampling.

Sam Adams “Utopias” beer is illegal in 15 states
Samuel Adams released its exclusive Utopias beer to select locations yesterday, the collection is so rare, only 100 casks were made and it’s illegal in 15 states. Each beer is barrel-aged and hand-bottled, the brewing company calls it “America’s most extreme beer.†It contains 28 percent alcohol by volume and it sells for $210 a bottle. Due to its high 28 percent ABV content, the Utopias collection is illegal in Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia.

38th Annual GABF
There were 7000 breweries at the end of 2018 in the US, with another 1000 expected to open this year.
And many of those will be descending on Denver this week for, of course, the 38th annual Great American Beer Festival. In 1982 at the first GABF there were about 25 breweries pouring. This year there will be over 800 breweries pouring over 4000 different beers to an expected attendance of 62,000.

Portland Cider Co. releases Fruit Forward Community Cider
Portland Cider Co. asked Portland-area neighbors to recycle their fallen and unwanted backyard fruit this summer, and the community responded in a big way. Portland Cider Co. collected over 400 bushels –– or 16,000 lbs –– of apples, plus fruits and berries. As a result of the generosity, Portland Cider has made a record quantity of its annual Fruit Forward Community Cider.
Portland Cider Co. will release its Fruit Forward Community Cider on October 19 at its Clackamas Pub & Cidery, located at 8925 SE Jannsen Rd., Bldg F. The company has pledged to donate 100% of the net proceeds of sales of this community cider to Hunger-Free Schools, a program of Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon that works to ensure students of all ages and levels have enough to eat.

PDX – Laurelwood Brewing closing Sellwood-Moreland pub
Laurelwood Brewing will close its Sellwood restaurant this weekend due to rent increase, owner Mike de Kalb said Thursday afternoon.
The last day of food and bar service will be Saturday. Workers will continue through Monday to close the restaurant and clear out the site, at 6716 S.E. Milwaukie Ave. in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood.
