Ask Real Beer

May 2000

I was wondering if you knew of a delicious beer from Belgium called Brigand. In the mid-1990's I used to buy the large bottle (around 25 oz.) version of this great brew and enjoyed it regularly. It was fantastic top-fermented brew, usually dated from around 1989-90 (read from the cork). But around 1996-97, Brigand stopped shipping the big bottles to the US (or at least in Chicago, where I live), started pushing younger, smaller, and less robust versions of the product in the area, and now have seemed to have disappeared altogether. What gives?

From Beer Dave: Brigand is a delicious Belgian ale from the little berg of Ingelmunster. It is imported by Wetten Imports of Fairfax, Va.
