Ask Real Beer

January 2000

I purchased a "Jung" beer tray in an antique shop about 20 years ago. Do you have any information on other items which may be acquired with this company's name on it? I'm not sure if this company is still in existence, but I THINK the beer might have been brewed in Milwaukee or another United States city. Can you help? Thanks, Charlotte Ersch Jung Hirt

Beer Dave answers Charlotte: There have been nine breweries in the US that used the Jung name. They operated in five states (Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky & Wisconsin). I am guessing from your information that the tray is from one of the three that operated in Milwaukee or the one which operated in Random Lake, Wisconsin. The Random Lake Brewery closed in 1958 and was the last operating brewery under the Jung name. There are always a number of Jung items available at breweriana shows in the Milwaukee area.
