Ask Real Beer

December 1999

I was wondering if there is any information you have about twist off beer bottle caps. I was wondering if you may know when and where they were invented and introduced into the beer world.

From Beer Dave: The twist off bottle cap appeared in the early 1960's. This was the same time as the introduction of the pop top can. Some sights pertaining to the bottle cap industry and manufacturers include www.zapata-international.com, www.alcoacsi.com and www.crowncork.com There is also a collectors club for bottle caps. The CCSI is the Crowncap Collectors Society International is based at 4300 San Juan in Fairfax, VA 22030. Dues are only $10 per year.
