Ask Real Beer

July 1999

Do you know of any domestic beers that are still bottled in the short "stubby" non-returnable type of bottles that were popular up until the late 1970's. Any info would be appreciated.

Beer Dave writes: In the late 70's and early 80's a number of glass manufacturers merged, closed or were bought out. Because of this a number of glass molds and designs were eliminated. The style you are referring to is the MOD II design. The last brewer to use this style was the Evansville Brewing Company of Evansville, Indiana. I also miss those little brown grenades.
