New Brewing Lager Beer

By Gregory J. Noonan

Brewers Publications, 1996

Boulder, Colorado

$14.95, 384 pages

Renowned brewer Greg Noonan, proprietor of the Vermont Pub and Brewery and New Hampshire's Seven Barrel Brewery, has updated his 1986 classic Brewing Lager Beer. New Brewing Lager Beer is 100 pages longer than the original, and completely updated to reflect the changes in craft brewing over the past decade.

Noonan's updated volume is a comprehensive and detailed technical handbook for serious homebrewers and commercial craft brewers alike. It is important to emphasize that this is a very technical book, definitely not a guide for beginning brewers.

Divided into two major sections, brewing ingredients, followed by the brewing process, Noonan provides exacting detail in his subject matter. The chapter on water analysis and treatment alone, for instance, is 41 pages long.

If you're an all-grain brewer serious about duplicating the world's great lager styles, you probably already have a wort-stained copy of Brewing Lager Beer. New Brewing Lager Beer is the next logical addition to your brewhouse bookshelf.
