Brewing Quality in Western North Carolina
Western North Carolina is home to a quickly growing craft beverage industry as well as organizations offering support services for small and large brewers. This event will discuss some of those services, as well as other methods for ensuring quality in your finished product.
Quality control methods covered will introduce a range of techniques, from sensory evaluation to laboratory analysis, so there will be something for brewers at all levels of experience and production.
Eric and Tim from Highland Brewing Company will join us to talk about quality assurance and quality control considerations and challenges from the industry perspective. Highland Brewing Company is Asheville’s first legal brewery since prohibition, and a major player in Asheville’s craft beer scene. Producing 40,000 barrels a year, it has an established an in-house quality control lab and procedures. Eric and Tim will provide an insiders perspective on maintaining quality in the craft beer industry.
After the main event, there will be an optional tour of the educational brewery used by the Craft Beverage Institute of the Southeast as well as BioNetwork's Natural Products Laboratory.

Coffee + Beer Education w. Real Ale Brewer Erik Ogershok
Real Ale Head Brewer Erik Ogershok is going to host a discussion on his philosophy on coffee, beer and when the two shall meet. The renowned Real Ale Coffee Porter is a hallmark of the style, and you can learn about the development of this beer and some of the processes that go into making it each year. There will be a short Q&A after the talk, then we can have some fun pairing up coffee, beer and coffee-beer. Of course, this is Wright Bros. Brew and Brew, so coffee, beer and coffee-beer are all available before, during and after the discussion. Remember to be responsible and caffeinate before you party.
