Brewing with Bully Boy @ Hopsters
Hopsters, Newton’s first ever commercial brewery, and Bully Boy Distillers, Boston’s first craft distillery, are collaborating on a limited run of a small-batch specialty beer: a barrel-aged Imperial Stout infused with the flavors and aromas of whiskey and oak called Down Boy Stout. On September 11, 2014, Hopsters’ brewers and Will Willis, Bully Boy’s co-founder, will brew the beer recipe in Hopsters’ kettles on premise, along with twenty members of the public who reserve their spot in advance. Hopsters will also open its doors to the public and invites non-brewers to enjoy an expanded Bully Boy craft cocktail menu, available for purchase at the bar, and a meet & greet with Bully Boy co-founder Will Willis. After the boil, the beer will ferment and age in two new American Oak wood barrels that were once used to ferment and store Bully Boy’s handcrafted whiskey in their local distillery for three and a half years. After a 90-day slumber, the final product will be a malty, opaque Imperial Stout, featuring subtle notes of raisin, oak, and the one-of-a-kind caramel and nutty finish of Bully Boy’s own American Straight Whiskey. Brewing session participants will receive twelve 750ml champagne bottles of the exclusive barrel-aged beer style to enjoy at home and the remainder of the beer will be kegged and unveiled to the public for the first time during a tapping party at Hopsters on Repeal Day, December 5, 2014, the commemoration of the day the United States rescinded prohibition.

Location: Hopsters
Hours: 7pm (Grinding & Mashing begins at 4pm)
