Madison County Hops Fest - Beer Sampling
The Madison County Hop Fest celebrates the past, present and prosperous future of the hop industry in Madison County and throughout New York State. Sept. 12-Paired Hop Dinner at Kenwood and Vine, 170 Kenwood Ave, Oneida, NY. The five course meal created by Executive Chef, Don Smith, will be paired with a variety of craft beers. Tickets for the dinner are $55. Reservations required by September 5 and seating is limited. Sept. 13- on-site at the Madison County Historical Society-11am– 5:30 pm. Free admission- featured guest speakers- Don Cazentre (11:00 am), Food and Drink writer for syracuse.com, Syracuse Post Standard and new author will present a program and book signing on his new book, 2nd Edition of New York Breweries. Steve Miller(11:00 am) , New York’s first Hop Specialist from Cornell Cooperative Extension and crowned Madison County Hop King in 2013 will share his research on the commercial hop industry in Madison and Oneida Counties. Al Bullard (2:45 pm) collector of hop tools and consultant on hop exhibits and crowned Madison County Hop King in 2005 will examine specialized farm implements used in the hop trade and highlight structures in the landscape that may have been buildings used in the 19th and 20th century hop industry. There will also be brewing demonstrations by American Home Brewers Association, exhibits on the history of hops, crowning of the 2014 Hop King (2:00 pm), Taste of Hops: a food and beer pairing(12:00-2:00 pm), and of course craft beer sampling(2:30-5:30 pm).

The Morgan Log House has collaborated with Round Guys Brewery, Free Will Brewing Co., the Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College, Cardinal Hollow Winery, Haymaker Meadery, Kurant Hand Crafted Ciders, Asher's Chocolates, and Ziegler's Apple Cider for their Second Annual “Tavern Night.” This event features a pairings of 8 food dishes prepared by the Culinary Arts Institute and paired with specific beers from Round Guys Brewery & Free Will Brewing Co., cider from Kurant Handcrafted Ciders, and meads from Haymaker Meadery. Additional demos will include colonial beer brewing, distilling, cooking, after-hours museum tours, appetizers & drinks combine in this “happy hour” style event being held the grounds of a 300+ year old property. A special addition this year is a VIP hour starting at 5pm with tastings of a signature beer, Log House Ale, an American Brown Ale brewed with apple cider, per the recipe of William Penn's wife drafted in the 17th century. This beer has been fresh hopped with cascade hops grown on location at Morgan Log House. This is first time this beer has been brewed in the region and it has been expertly done by local Brewmaster and Staff at Round Guys Brewing Company and Pub. This is a limited edition beer and only available through this event. In addition to the Log House Ale, VIP's will also get access to Cardinal Hollow Winery 's Pumpkin Wine, weeks before general public tasting, and a specialty cider by Kurant Cider. In addition to the specialty drinks, there will be menu dishes reserved only for VIP's, a complimentary 16oz event pint glass, and a bottle of the limited edition Log House Ale as a take away. Tickets are extremely limited.
