A local Barcelona beer often over-shadowed by the marketing muscle of the Damm brands, the 4.2% San Miguel 1516 appears adjunct-free and its label proclaims "Nach dem Reinheitsgbot gebraut." The medium-bodied brew starts with a clear gold color with no appreciable aromas. Hop bitterness actually dominates the flavor profile but the body supports this and the finish is crisp and clean. The Nostrom, at 6.2%, is a clear gold color with a medium body where the light pale malt presence is dominated by the hop bitterness. Much hoppier that their Asian brethren, these brews seem well-designed for the climate and traditional Spanish beer preferences.
