From the corked and capped 330ml bottle, the Saison de Pipaix pours a dense and dark straw color. The active carbonation readily brings forth woody and musty aromas reminiscent of a damp cellar below the Belgian countryside. The flavors also are dominated by that cellar character that resists allowing the mellow maltiness to come across. A slight hops bitterness does come through late in the flavor. The English language label indicates 6% alcohol by volume (abv) but this seems not enough to save this brew from the effects bottle conditioning against a cork with such a light flavor profile.
