Located in the corner of a hard-to-find strip mall, the key to finding Coasters Pub is to be on the East side of the causeway when searching Eau Gallie Boulevard. Inside, a small glass-walled brewing system stands at the center of the rear of the single large room, its stainless steel vessels shining brightly. A medium-sized lacquered bar occupies the left side of the room, with every square foot of wall covered by logo'd beer mirrors. A nice collection of beer glasses and mugs rings the room. Centerfield of this sports-oriented establishment features the lounge, where smokers watch their favorite pro sports teams while consuming various brands of light beer. Football paraphernalia abounds on the surrounding walls. Red brick and green carpets cover the floors. To the right, the dining section offers another dozen tables as refuge from the second-hand tobacco smoke. Appetizers and light food are served up for the sports crowd.
The owner/brewer has quite a challenge to sell craft beer to this Florida coastal audience. The pricing strategy is puzzling since Budweiser is marked 10% cheaper than the house brews. Seven commercial adjunct brews (megas) join 25 imports on tap. Some uncommon bottled imports such as Cervecería Imperial add to the lineup. The Eau Gallie Golden Ale is a hazy dark gold topped by a thick white head. Medium-bodied, it offers a nice hops flavor from start to finish. The Driftwood Pale Ale is a dark amber with a thick head, big body and clean chewy maltiness. A late mellow hops bitterness comes in at the finish. The menu shows two other brews as standard but they were unavailable. Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. with regular hours being 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to midnight on Sunday. Prices range from $1.75 for 10 ounces, $2.25 for a pint, and $7.50 a pitcher. The restrooms are wheelchair accessible so mobility should not be a problem. Merchandise for sale includes coasters, bar towels and logo'd glasses. Open six years, Coasters seems to offer the locals what they're looking for. When looking for the first time for Coasters however, look only along East Eau Gallie, not West.Coasters Pub
