I'm new to home brewing (7th batch). I'm making an american ale. I used cascade hop pellets 1.5 oz's. through out the total boil. I love sweetwater IPA so I LOVE hops. Now my question is this? Not much to tell you. Put the plugs in your secondary, then siphon the beer from your primary onto them. No hop bags needed, but it won't hurt if you do use them.

That's all there is to it.

I'd reccommend leaving them in secondary for at least two weeks.

BTW, post these questions in the homebrewing section.

I'm also a new brewer and love hops. Funny I saw this topic because I just made a Pale Ale and it called for 1 oz. of Cascade hops to be dry hopped and a 21 day secondary fermentation. I was telling this to the brewmaster at the local pub/supply shop and he told me dry hopping for more than a week would basically ruin the beer. It was already 17 days, and I couldn't get to it until 19 days before I could bottle it. I have one week to go for bottle conditioning now and thought it was ruined. I read all those links, and now I don't know what to think. At least I now have hope. Time will tell!

I'm not a brew master by no means but that does not sound right at all. Some folks including my best friend put the hops into the keg and left them there 3 weeks on a IPA that we now ENJOY. So I believe that you will be fine just from what I have read.

FYI, I just started drinking the Pale Ale that I dry hopped and it is the best I've made yet (IMO). The Brewmaster was wrong, more than a week did not "ruin" my beer. I just can't wait until all those Bud Light drinkers who are always wanting to try my homebrew get a taste of a highly hopped beer!
