Alton Brown traitor?

Ok, that might be a bit much but still I'm sure other fans of 1. Beer and 2. Good Eats will be shocked:

I was stunned when I saw this. At first I thought it must've been a photoshop job, but a couple of blogs make it seem like it's legit (still trying to confirm). Now any man can like any beer he pleases, but this seems so against everything that he preaches on his show and he's seemed to be a micropositive guy in past viewings. I can only assume the suitcase full of cash persuaded him otherwise.

Anyone actually seen one of these displays in the flesh.

The shark has well and truly been jumped.

Ugh. You've officially ruined my weekend.

That Miller Lite ad reminds me of the Tyler Florence Applebee's ads I've been seeing for the last month or so. I guess everyone has a price....

Heard about 'em but hadn't seen one until this. BFD.

I think hops is right - everyone probably does have their price, whether they'll admit it or not. Those that truly may not, have enough cash to not need a price - and they are the exception.

And advertising and/or enjoying a macro doesn't mean you have to give up an appreciation for craft beer.

Cheers!

I was taken aback to see TF shilling for Applebees, a restaurant chain so utterly devoid of quality that I do not know a single person who rates it above "horrible". Still he's always seemed a bit of crap artists, though he does have kitchen chops I'll grant you (his Aroz con Pollo recipe hits it perfect).

Still part of Alton's schtick is about quality/craftsmanship and is very anti big food (which I'd consider beer). I can see him saying he wouldn't mind an ice cold macro after mowing the lawn, but to sign your name and put your face on Lite as having anything to do with taste and quality is, coming from him, frankly shocking. Obviously it's the cash, and I'd like to pretend I'd be immune to such bribery, but still. I dunno it is truly shocking.

oh. my. god.

i did not need to see that.

i don't have much to add to what you guys said. i'm a big alton fan, but this is going too far.

i hope he got a lot of money for it, because i've certainly lost some respect. good eats is still a great show, but what he has done is a bit two-faced. he's definitely slammed crappy beer before.

bring more taste to the table? i hope he was laughing his ass off in his head, knowing that anyone who watches his show ought to know better.

Yeah that one threw me for a loop too!

But Is Alton any worse than Anthony Bourdain who seems to long for nothing more than Heineken with the rare and weird foods he seeks out?

I'm wondering if Alton has a website or blog where he can be asked if this is a legit ad.

He does have a website:

http://www.altonbrown.com/

But there doesn't seem to be any comment on this or any contact info.

I did find this funny:

"too much of our food is produced by centralized, industrial concerns."

Granted he was talking about the Spinach/E Coli thing but still.

It's legit. Someone spotted an ad at a Safeway last month. Discussed on BA. Sounds like Alton is aware of & enjoys craft beer, but sometimes just reaches for something cold & wet. You could argue he should reach for a mineral water...but I couldn't care less what Alton Brown likes to drink.

I'm a major beer geek. That said, throw money at me and I'll gladly endorse one of the BMC beers. Would any of you turn down the kind of money he likely made off that ad campaign? I doubt it.

Yeah, if I had that kind of sway I'd call up Jim Koch or John Hall or Fritz Mayteg (or hell, why not all three!) and offer to do the same for a free membership in their keg of the month club. If they didn't have such a club, they'd just have to make one.

...Hey; look at the bright side. It could be Rachel Ray, and she might say Miller Lite is "nummers".....
