In Need of Kegs

I am in need of Kegs that have been converted for brewing.

I haven't done all grain brewing in a long time and would like to get back into it.

Please tell me what we can work out.

check the third post here by danno. This is the cheapest/best setup I've found. Just waiting to be able to afford it. Eventually, I'll have two - one for mashing, one for boiling.

Here's a reply that was two down from the above link:
"I asked my local liquor store that has kegs if she would sell me one of her kegs. She says they charge me $10.00 of I lose one. How about $12.00."
I think that is a pretty cheap way of doing it.
I just cut into a keg this weekend that I've had for years.

I HIGHLY SUGGEST NOT DOING THIS as it is ILLEGAL. The liquor store owner does not own the kegs and while they get their deposit to give to the distro folks you are screwing someone over. I don't care if they are AB, Coors or a craft brewers kegs that is the WRONG way to get them.

Now, as a brewer I have been known to sell kegs for scrap if they are broken and many brewers will do this. Sure you will pay about double the deposit but it is legal and the brewer does not get screwed over.

Agreeing with BM - that's a shady way of getting you kegs.

You might also check for brewery closures (as said as that may be). I know my LHBS bought a bunch of used kegs from Yards when they closed shop.

Actually, I just looked at their homepage which is active and current as of July 13. Are we talking about a Yards other than the one in Philly?

I must be mistaken. I thought that's what the guy said, but they appear to be still giving tours, so there must be a brewery there.

From recent press, it looks like they poured at live 8 recently
