I'll look and see what I can find. I've been innundated with beer lately - it was my birthday over the weekend and everyone knew exactly what to get for me! This means that my trips to the beer store are going to be almost nonexistent unless I'm trading with someone, but when I get a chance to sneak over there I'll let you know what I find.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! Sounds like it was good. You're still just a young pup. I hope they carded you before they gave you the beer. Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend.
Yeah, we had a good time. Went to Buca di Beppo. Got lots of beer, including a bomber of Avery's The Beast and a Great Divide sampler 12er. Instead of candles on a cake, they bring out this candelabra that looks like something from the old Dark Shadows TV show - pretty cool! Got to try Avery's Redpoint Ale on tap - really good! Don't usually care for reds, but this was very nice.
I'll be by the beer store this afternoon, looks like - I'll see what they've got in the way of Levitation Ale!

What did you think of Buca's? That chain's origins are here in the Twin Cities. (Small chain, I think they only have a half dozen or so locations.) I've been there several times. Great place for large groups. They serve family style, so we always have about 3 days worth of lunches we take home with us when we go there. I've heard that they are in some financial/legal trouble lately though. Something about counting employee lunches as expenses, among other things....I was disappointed when I heard that. I really like their food and am not thrilled about supporting a place with dubious accounting practices....
Food was great; service was also terrific. Have 3 days of penne pasta and 4 servings of tiramisu in the fridge waiting for us. Hadn't heard anything about their finacial situation, but then again, I don't get out much. My memoirs someday will be compiled in a book called "My Life As A Mushroom".

Makes the local news here since they are a local company. Checked out the newspaper site today and it seems they're in a bit more hot water than I thought...let go some high level execs recently, using company funds for personal use, etc., currently in the process of "restating" their books....
Thanks for the well wishes, folks. "The Beast" isn't going to be consumed anytime soon - I've promised the giftgiver that I'd bring it over to his house at some point when it's nice and mellow, and we're ready to get nice and mellow...

Ever heard of Thirsty Dog? It's in northern Ohio and they've been gaining some recognition lately... their Hoppus Maximus American Amber is pretty darned good. I can get 6ers just about anywhere around here. Their distribution is very local. http://www.thirstydog.com
and in relation to your porter experiment the Robust Porter is good too.
or maybe you have some more specific requests?

Porters are always good; anything you're passionate about is equally bound to be good. Anything "big and weird" out there that I ought to know about, too?
