The Best Near Beer

First of all I would like to say hello to all of the members out there. You must all think I am nuts to ask about Near Beer, there is a reason for that! I am currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, when soldiers are deployed they fall under General Order #1 which covers many things to include NO ALCOHOL! So we drink near beer when we get it in, which is not very often. This is my fourth deployment in my career and I have had my fare share of Near Beer. But out of all of the brands that I have had most are not very good. I am in need of some feed back as to which Near Beers are the best out there. I don't consume Near Beer back in the states but since I am here I must do what I have to do. Thanks in advance for the help!

It may be sacrilege, but...

Here's a list of the ones I like. I may be one of the few people on this board who can honestly say they LIKE the taste of some of the near beers out there. As long as you don't tell yourself that it's beer, and you don't prepare your taste buds for the taste of beer, you might find something you like. It's certainly better than drinking Coke after Coke, if you ask me. Here goes:

Warsteiner
Clausthaler
Hakke Beck
Kaliber
Coors NA
Kingsbury

...and, if it's the only kind of NA beer you can get over there...

...O' Douls Amber isn't that bad.

If you can avoid supporting AB, I highly recommend you do so. On the other hand, if there's nothing else for you to drink other than yak milk, then nobody will think less of you for purchasing it.

Good luck, and here's to your safe return home!

Near Beer

Another vote for Hakke Beck & Kaliber. Those are the two that I liked the most. If all you can get is the O'Douls, then I'd opt for the Amber. Seems to have a bit more taste to it. Stay safe.

Thanks guys, I know this is not a very exciting topic but all we can have is near beer so I may as well as try and find the best one out there and hope to god our supply folks (for food) can get it in. I did have one the other day froma brewing company out of Denmark, FAXE beer is the name of it and it was not bad. It even came in a glass bottle which helped the taste. The funny thing is that it has the name "FAXE" spelled out but the rest of the writting on the bottle is in Aribic, kind of funny but kind of cool in the same breath. I will try and get home safe when ever that is, today marks my 5th month deployed from home, I think I have two to three more to go before I get home.
