Watneys

If you are speaking about the London Brewer, I can tell you that the brewery was closed in 1979.

Considering that the beer was generally pretty poor there are few who care about its passing!

I believe they are in London but my boyfriend used to drink it at a bar here in CA last year so maybe someone else is making it now.

Certainly not in the UK.

The Watneys name is dead and gone!

Possibly a US micro has copied it, but my research hasn't found it.

Why not suggest to your boyfriend that he try some of the other wonderful stouts available now?

Go to http://www.bottledbeer.co.uk/ for a list of most of the bottled beers made throughout the world. (There was a problem with this site but I think it's working again now)

Watney's Cream Stout was available throughout the U.S. until somewhat recently. I haven't seen it anywhere in the midwest for probably over 6 years, and I was told by many sources that it was no longer being produced.

If the brewery was closed in 1979 (which I don't dispute), I imagine that the beer must have been brewed elsewhere for some time. Otherwise, I find it hard to believe that it was available in the U.S. a couple decades after the brewery closed!

Wish I could help you find some, nocalchick76, but I haven't seen it in many years. I've also been told that any bottles you might come upon are likely to be several years old. Just something to consider. There are also quite a few other commonly available cream & sweet stouts that your boyfriend might enjoy trying instead.
