More beer festivals are coming to St. Louis

By Evan S. Benn
We're getting into beer-festival season in St. Louis, when almost every weekend yields a brew party or two. Here are some that should be on your calendar.

2nd Shift Winter Cask Fest • Feb. 9. New Haven's 2nd Shift Brewing Co. is again hosting its Winter Cask Fest with firkins of cask-conditioned beer from 2nd Shift as well as Schlafly, Civil Life, Perennial, 4 Hands, Exit 6, Charleville and Augusta. Tickets are $110 and include overnight accommodations at Cedar Creek, plus dinner, breakfast and beer.

Schlafly Cod and Cask Festival • Feb. 15-16. Thousands of pounds of Icelandic cod are flown in and battered, fried and served alongside cask ales from Schlafly and friends. The two-day event takes place at the Tap Room downtown; no tickets required.

Fifth Annual Centennial Beer Festival • Feb. 22-23. One annual festival that's definitely gotten better each year of its existence is the Centennial Beer Festival at the Moulin Events space at 2017 Chouteau Avenue. This year's event kicks off with a five-course beer dinner on Friday, Feb. 22, with Six Row Brewing Co. brewmaster Evan Hiatt and Moulin executive chef Tony Cole. The festival includes an afternoon and an evening session on Saturday, Feb. 23, with more than 100 beers available to taste. For an additional $15, VIP tickets allow access to high-end beers and food pairings. Tickets to the beer dinner are $68. Tickets to the festival sessions are $27 (afternoon) and $37 (evening) through Friday, then $32 and $42. Purchase tickets here.

4 Hands Lupulin Carnival • March 2. Iowa brewery Toppling Goliath announced this month it would be bringing some of its beers to St. Louis for 4 Hands' second annual Lupulin Carnival, "a celebration of hops." No details yet on times or ticket prices, but last year's event was in the afternoon and cost $35.

Fifth Annual Cystic Fibrosis FestivAle • March 2. More info here.

Schlafly Stout and Oyster Festival • March 8-9. This is my favorite Schlafly event of the year. The Tap Room pairs 30,000 East and West Coast oysters with different stouts. No tickets required.

18th Annual St. Louis Microfest • May 3-4. The two-day event benefiting Lift for Life returns May 3 and 4 to Forest Park. Tickets go on sale Friday at stlmicrofest.org and cost $30 for the May 3 session, $34 for each of two May 4 sessions, or $47-$54 for a VIP ticket that includes access to special beers and free food. Hip Hops will have some ticket packages to give away closer to the event.
