Had an okto from Bells this afternoon. IMO, not the best beer from them. There's some kind of flavor or bitterness in the back that not very nice. Just like the Cubs, we'll try again next year.

Rich black coffee from Guatemala, brewed in a press that I roasted the other night.

HA!

I went to college in Kalamazoo, go broncos... So I had plenty of bells in my day. back in the day EVERYTHING they made that that weird taste at the end., its kinda hard to explain.

I like to blame it on the kalamazoo river, personally. But then again Octoberfest beer kinda blows...dont like the style that much.

...waiting for my IPA to ferment while drinking a heineken

Pretty much finished building my fermentation box, tomorrow I'll get on the AM radio trade show and get a cheap dorm fridge.
Now I can drink.
Started with a homebrewed dopplebock, then a Belgian quad, now my saison. I see an early bedtime approaching fast.

Enjoyed the day watching the Patriots and the Red Sox with a friend. For beer, we enjoyed Acme Brown Ale, Acme IPA, Harpoon's Alpine Fresh Hop Ale, Jolly Pumpkin's Bam Noire and North Coast Brewing's Old Rasputin X

Had their Pilsner over the weekend and thought it was going to be prettty mundane at first, then the nice biscuit maltiness came through with flying colors.

Had their Okto last year and thought it was one of the best of the American Oktos to be had, but haven't had a chance to try the 07.

Friday night:
6 Spaten Oktos on Draft at a cheesy local Okto that I go to every year.

Saturday:
Too many to mention at a local brew fest. The best of the best being Jason Oliver's Gordon Biersch Fest and Victory Fest all from draft.

Sunday night:
Some pretty special and rare brews sampled. Brickskeller 50th Birthday.
Rogue Hop Heaven wet hopped - Draft
Russian River Temptation 2005 - Draft
Morehouse's Blond Witch - on cask and past prime
Dogfish Head Burton Bator 2007 - Draft
Dogfish Head Raison D' EXtra 2005 - Draft
Sierra Nevada Bigfood 2001 - Draft
Stone Double Bastard 2006 - Draft
Anchor Our Special Ale 2001 - Draft
Allegash Curieux 2005 - Draft
Unibroue Ephemera - Draft
Rodenbach - Draft
Alesmith Speedway Stout 2002 - Bottled

I had several glasses of the Temptation my fav of the night.

THis was a big beer weekend for me as there were three events. I've been hitting several fests and dinners in the past several weeks and there are more on the horizon including NOVA Brewfest on the 20th and SPBW Real Ale fest on the 27th. And a couple of beer dinners thrown in between. Then things should calm down some. Whew!

Yeah, no way I can post all the samplings at the Quivey's Grove fest -- but Bell's was kind enough to bring a firkin of the 2 Hearted and Lake Louie Brewing had some great special tappings throughout the afternoon.

Bells Two Hearted on cask is wonderful as you know. We are pretty lucky to get it around here fairly often now. I had two samples of it not on cask but on draft at the fest I went to on Saturday. I'm very happy to be seeing lots more imports at the last several fests I've been to as well. Even things like Weheinstephan and Eggenberger all on draft. I did stop by the Fullers booth and had a London Pride on draft not cask and it was substandard to most of the other brews i sampled that day. unfortunately. I was shooting for mainly seasonal or fest brews at booths that had them though. I had one that was terrible from a VA brewer and I poured it out. Similarly last night at the Bricks I didn't finish a Cask beer that was beyond its prime.
