Hmm, I had it a couple weeks ago at a beer fest and thought it was the next best to a locally brewed pub Fest -- I know, that could mean all the others were swill, but that wasn't the case at all.

Yup. Order at least once a year.
Chocolate covered beans, macadamias and new salsa (mango, coconut & habenero).
My Victory was fresh - bottled 8/1/07?
Was smooth, lightly toasty but I missed any lightly spicy hop complement. Seemed very one-dimensional. OK but not my favorite by a long shot.
Spied the Sam Admas Impy Pils today. May get some on payday.
I've had some at home, it's not bad at all. I actually had it side-by-side with Dogfish Head's Golden Era (formerly Golden Shower, formerly Prescription Pils) at a fest on Sunday, and I like the Golden Era better

I'm preparing to have a Victory fest in a few when I settle in front of the telly for the evening. Had Guinness draft at dinner. Not sure what will follow.

Maybe it's because I've stepped back from hop-bombs, but I found it well-balanced for the style -- unlike some other "fest" beers out there that seem to be hopping up for "U.S. tastes." New Glarus Staghorn, for example.

Found some (fresh) Paulaner Okto -- wasn't cold and had a Spaten Okto first, probably tainted my Palate -- but I don't think the Paulaner and H-P are as close this year as some have thought.
Bready, toasty nose with some DMS. Malty flavor with a light hop finish, but the melanoidins seem more lacking than the Spaten -- again, my palate isn't clean. Stay tuned.

I had a left hand octoberfest last night, and I'm trying to decide if I'm in a stout mood tonight or not. If I am, I'm going to have Cape Ann's Pumpkin Stout and Anderson's Barney Flats oatmeal stout. If not, I'll either go with Cisco's Whale's Tale pale ale, or pilsner urquell -- tomorrow is the 165th anniversary.

'Nother Paulaner Okto...and it's just not quite right - for an Okto, that is. It's certainly drinkable, but it's not tripping my trigger as Munich Oktos have in the past; the melanoidin character is all but gone and there's a distinct hop finish that's uncharacteristic of the style.
Have to try another Spaten next, or just switch to the Spaten Pils for a change of pace.

First stop was at the Black Lotus Brewing company. They were out of the Ocktoberfest, so I opted for the pumpkin ale instead. It was ok. That's it, ok. I followed it with a Black Bottom Oatmeal Stout. This beer was better, but it was served on co2 instead of nitrogen. It had a strong coffee flavor, but there was an entirely unpleasant smell that really put me off my pint.
Next stop was Kuhnhenn's for a Brother Gold Kolsh. This was a darn tasty beer. I also tasted a ginger beer. I don't think that I could drink a whole pint of it, but it did cleanse my palate nicely.
My final stop was the Taproom. I had a Dragonmead Under The Kilt Wee Heavy, always a tasty brew.
Now I'm home and ready for bed.
By the way steveh, I like the new avatar.
