Was hoping to find a Paulaner Helles for dinner accompaniment tonight, had to settle for a Franziskaner Weizen with the Greek-style shrimp my girlfriend "threw" together. Mmmm.

I remember when we could get fresh Moerlein here in the Chicago area, it was one of those good regionals at a time when there were few good beers to be found on the shelves.

Tonight, it will be one of three new gluten free beers from Belgium -- Green's Discovery Amber Beer; Green's Endeaveor Dubbel Dark or Green's Quest Tripel Blond.
Kind of interested to see how belgian styles taste made without any barley or anything like that.

Had that promised Paulaner Helles. Interesting beer in that it has about the softest mouth-feel of any beer I've had. A biproduct of double decoction mashing.
Unfortunately, I didn't find it as satisfying in the melanoidin malt flavor I got from the Hofbrauhaus Helles I had 2 nights ago. Sort of a slight tangy, almost sour hop flavor in there too (bottled last month).
But nothing to turn me away, still a nice drink. I have another for tomorrow to compare.

Release Date: June 1st each year
New in 2007!
A refreshing neo-BerlinerWeisse fermented with honest-to-goodness peaches to (get this!) 4.5% abv! Because extreme beers don't have to be extremely boozy! Available in 4-pack and draft during the sweaty months.
Sadly, there are only two breweries left in Berlin still brewing the BerlinerWeisse style which is characterized by its intense tartness. There were once over 70 breweries in Berlin alone making this beer! In addition to fermentation with an ale yeast, Berliner Weisse is traditionally fermented with lactic cultures to produce its acidic or green apple-like character. It is delicately hopped with a pale straw color and served as an aperitif or summertime quencher. To soften the intense sourness, Berliner Weisse is traditionally served with a dash of essence of woodruff or raspberry syrup.
In our Festinal Peche since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup - open and enjoy!

I picked up a six-pack of Anheuser-Busch's new gluten-free Redbridge Lager at the Market Street grocery in Colleyville, TX. It's really not a bad brew. I like it better than anything else of their's that I have drank. Was wondering if anyone else had tried it and what they thought.
I had it the other day actually, part of my gluten-free beer tasting plan -- I've had the Red Bridge, Ramamp Passover Honey Ale, Lakefront's New Grist, Toleration and Green's Belgian Dark Dubbel.
They're all OK, with the Belgian being the best. It's not as full-bodied as a typical Dubbel and a little sweeter, but it's actually pretty good. I'm having the Tripel tonight.
I think once you get used to the sorghum taste, it's not bad.
I actually like Red Bridge more than Budweiser.
