No bombs yet.....been bottled since last Thursday night. What you guys think? Am I in the clear for bombs? Or too soon to tell?
What i did was put all bottled beer in one of those big plastic storage bins with a lid, there like 12 bucks at wal mart, then i sat something heavy on the lid, this way i did not have to worry about bottle bombs. I did this right up till i started kegging. It will not only contain the mess if a bottle blows, but it will also ensure no one gets hurt by flying glass.

I always add the priming sugar to the bottom of the bucket, then rack the beer on top of it. You say you made an IPA? That's another plus for your beer, hops are anitseptic. I'd call it "Hair of the Dog IPA". Or maybe she won't embrace that one lol

Is it worth it to buy a nylon grain bag and put the hops in it during the boil? Will it ma?e the beer cleaner? Lessen the hop punch? What are your thoughts?
I've tried boiling the hops in a bag, and I've tried throwing them straight into the boil kettle. I haven't personally noticed a difference in the results.
I've settled on not using the bags. Straining the wort helps aerate it a little more, so it's not like it's a totally useless operation. On the other hand, when I've got a wort chiller and a thermometer in the kettle, that poor kettle's quite crowded and the hop bag is yet another bit of clutter to aggravate me.
But really it comes down to hassle. Keeping track of a nylon bag, making sure it's not scorching in the kettle, and cleaning it afterwards seems like just a shade more hassle than sanitizing a strainer and pouring the wort through it. So I go with the slightly less complex method and ditched the hop bag.
Of course your mileage may vary.
FWIW I use whole leaf hops pretty much exclusively: it's possible I'd go other other way if I were using pellets.
I just put them in the kettle and don't worry about it. It's all hop pellets they sell around here. As many as I've ever dumped in a kettle, I've never seen in my glass.

Ok well with this IPA I did I just dumped the pellets in the pot and I started to strain when pouring into the fermenter but the funnel/filter was getting seriously clogged so we just poured it from high up to let it get oxygen. Was this totally wrong? Didn't all the hop sludge settle out of the beer? Some of it was dried on the side of the fermenter close to the waterline.
