ok need some advice guys

Ok I know you guys said to get starsan in my other thread but I didn't have time to get it today and is really like to get my first batch in the fermenter this weekend. So my kit came with this no rinse cleanserbut what can I use to sanitize my fermenter and stuff around the house or from Walmart? I know bleach is usable but needs really well rinsed with pre-boiled water. Help? Or should I wait till Monday and go get the starsan

I used bleach for years, cheap, easy to find and effective. Or diluted iodine, but I would rinse that too so just use the bleach.

So you think regular old bleach will be ok? How do I know I've rinsed it well enough? And only rinse with pre_boiled water right?

Honestly, Your Worrying too much, I used Bleach once upon a time, and i rinsed with tap water and still didn't have problems. I Switched to Star San, Only after i had been using a Iodine sanitizer and had an infected batch. If you want to Pre Boil the water to rinse with that is fine, but i dont think it is really "required". Just make sure it is well sanitized and rinse with very hot water and you should be fine, Get star san as soon as possible, and you will never use anything else, trust me star san rocks.

And an empty spray bottle to hold some in. Very handy.

Starsan rocks!!

And for further advice, never marry a woman who doesn't like the Three Stooges.

i think the conventional wisdom would suggest steam. or you could soak them in vodka. I admit I have never used them but I would steam them with a vegetable steamer.

And, yes, the Three Stooges.

Soak them in enough Vodka to cover them for the entire primary then when you go to bottle or keg the beer strain the vodka into the beer. You get the wood flavor, in a safe easy way.

My wife of 32 years hates the 3 Stooges, but she loves that I love beer so much so I'll keep the old woman around a little longer.

If you have a meat thermometer that works well too! Nice to have a lazy digital output sometimes.

Yes. Dump out what foam you can then whatever little is left is fine to dump wort right in on it.

star-san is mostly food-grade phosphoric acid (look at the ingredients list on a can of soda) and a foaming agent.

Go for it.

Thanks! It smells awesome in my house right now! Bout 10 min left in the 60 min boil. I steeped specialty grains for 30 min...does that mean it was a partial mash?
