PDX - Tonight's Tap It Tuesday: LIVE: Bourbon Bing Quad
Hello friends! Tonight's Tap It Tuesday at 6pm is LIVE: Bourbon Bing Quad. This NW style sour blond quad was aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels for 13 months before aging an additional four months on more than 150 lbs of fresh Bing cherries. Intense aromas of dark cherry and purple strawberry-almost like cherry sauvignon-are noticed up front. Tart, rich Bing cherry flesh notes on the palate lead to a tart, drying cherry skin note in the finish. 10% ABV $8/glass, $3/taster.
NEW RELEASE: We are pleased to announce the release of Blueberry in bottles this Thursday, Dec. 6th at 4:30 pm at both the Barrel House and the brewery. This NW style sour ale is a blend of wheat and blond ales that were aged in oak barrels for up to 12 months before aging on fresh blueberries for an additional three months. 750 ml bottles sell for $20 apiece. The bottles will go online early next week.
In other exciting bottle news, the Vlad the Imp Aler blend is set and will be bottled next week. Look for a release sometime in the latter half of January!
We just learned that the Northwest Brewing News Readers Choice Poll has selected Cascade Kriek as the Best Northwest Sour Beer from BC, Washington and Oregon! The awards will be presented this Sunday in Vancouver, BC. We'll toast to that!
If you attended the recent Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland, you noticed we sent a non-sour, our Diesel Stout #2, a barrel aged stout brewed with chocolate and roasted malts, black strap molasses and dark Belgian candi sugar, then aged for nine months in Heaven Hill rye whiskey barrels on Bourbon vanilla beans and black mission figs. We are pleased to report it was one of the biggest buzz beers of the festival! The best part was the level of surprise among beer fans to learn that Cascade makes non-sours.
In fact, more than half of our production is devoted to non-sours, and they're damn good! Two of these go on tap today: Pay Czech Pils IPA, a Pilsen malt forward nose coupled with a spice bomb of Saaz aroma in a straw blond ale. An assertive hop bite with bready malt notes and some warming alcohol combine on the tongue with a lingering Saaz hop finish. 7% ABV, 40 IBU, $4.5/Pint; and Rain Walker Red, a Belgian style spiced dark ale. Orange and star anise combine in a sweet, spicy licorice aroma in this deep garnet red holiday ale. A rich, caramel malt mouthfeel provides balance to a mélange of sweet spice and hop bitterness. 5.9% ABV, 17 IBU, $4.5/Pint.
Coming soon, look for Darkest Day IPA, a double CDA brewed for the shortest day of the year. Dark malt, chocolate and burnt caramel vie with piney citrus notes in the aroma. Warming on the palate, sweet dark bread malts at last give way to spicy Bravo and crisp Cascade hops. 7.5% ABV, 60 IBU, $4.5/Pint;
