Chicago brewer Goose Island's beers to be sold in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Birmingham Budweiser on Thursday will begin distributing a number of beers produced by Chicago-based Goose Island Beer Co., the distributor announced today.
Goose Island's 312 Urban Wheat Ale, Honker's Ale, India Pale Ale and seasonal product Mild Winter will be available on draft at bars and restaurants served by the distributor on Thursday. Birmingham Budweiser will begin distributing the beers in bottles in the spring.
"Goose Island is a high quality Midwest brand that will fit perfectly with the adventurous tastes of Alabama's growing craft beer community," Birmingham Budweiser president Jay Dobbs said in a prepared statement.
Goose Island opened as a brewpub in 1988, and expanded with the addition of a free-standing brewery and bottling plant in 1995. The company was acquired last year by Belgium-based Anheuser-Busch InBev, which has worked to expand the brand's reach. Its beers are sold in 36 states and in Europe.
The company, which now operates two Chicago brewpubs, also produces sodas including a root beer and an orange cream.
