CO - Fort Collins Thanksgiving beers

http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20...nclick_check=1
It’s Thanksgiving and that means copious amounts of turkey, stuffing and pie. However, gluttons will need a frosty beverage to wash down all of that food and what better pairing than a craft beer. Fortunately, this is Fort Collins and there is no lack of craft beer to pair with that Thanksgiving dinner. Here are five local beers to keep in mind this week when stocking up for the Thanksgiving feast.

1) Fort Collins Brewery’s Wheat Wine

The term “wheat” is the key thing to note with this beer. Brewed with a 50 percent malted wheat this is an offshoot of FCB’s Barley Wine Ale. At nearly 10 percent ABV, ravenous yeast yields a warming brew ripe with caramel-like flavors and fruity esters, according to the brewery. Wheat Wine will pair well with any turkey and yams.

2) Funkwerks’ Deceit

This Great American Beer Festival gold medalist was inspired by Belgian Tripels and Golden Strong ales. Using a high percentage of Pilsner malt and a unique Belgian yeast strains the beer offers a unique citrus quality carries into the flavor and finishes with a slight tartness, according to the brewery. The suggested pairing by Funkwerks includes mushroom-sage stuffing and turkey. This beer, at 9.4 percent ABV, was made for Thanksgiving.

3) New Belgium Brewing Co.’s Frambozen

This is another beer brewed with Thanksgiving in mind. Frambozen includes red raspberries, making for a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation, according to the brewery. This beer is sure to pair nicely with Thanksgiving berries.

4) Odell Brewing Co.’s Friek

Another berry-based beer, Friek is a Cellar Series Kriek and Framboise hybrid. An adaptation of a Lambic-style ale, Friek is aged in oak barrels with cherries grown on Colorado’s western slope. It is then blended with Colorado raspberries. The result marries a subtle cherry tartness with a hint of sweet raspberry and a crisp dry finish, according to the brewery. A bottle of this pairs nicely with any Thanksgiving meal.

5) Pateros Creek Brewing Co.’s - Owl Canyon Pumpkin Ale

What would Thanksgiving be without pumpkin. This beer is made with organic pie pumpkins from Grant Family Farms and spices from Old Town Spice Shop, according to the brewery Pateros Creek adds honey malt for sweetness that could very well make this a dessert beer for Thanksgiving dinner.
