Rogue Dead Guy Ale/Shakespear stout/Indian Pelican ale/Tsunami Stout

Rogue Dead Guy Ale

I belive this is a Maibock style.

The ale pours a Light straw color with a dense creamy
white head. Initial smell is a malty sweet almost
fruit nose. A light hop aroma appears as the beer
settles

Taste of malt is blended wih a mellow yet hop
bitterness. A fruity sweet taste with light hop tones
of Saaz? A very hidden taste of alcohol with A clean
malty finish.

I have to say, This beer is nothing like what I
thought it was going to be. I expected a Extreamly
hoppy and a high level of alcohol. On the bottle is
does not indicate what style of beer it is.

Shakespear stout

Mmmmm.... stout!

Shakespear stout poured a dark black with a EXTEAMLY
THICK dense dark tan head. A easy pour produced a
perfect head. A very mellow aroma of roasted barley
and and coffee.

Mouth feel was a perfectly thick beer with a
unfortunatly unpleasent carbonation(would be amazing
on a nitro draft) Gave the impression that you could
tip you glass over and still have a few seconds before
it spilled.

Roasted barley, Malty tones and a smooth chocolate aftertaste. The head has a creamy almost acidic taste to it.

The stout has a rich but mellow taste of malt, Carmel, and chocolate and is light to moderatly hopped.

HIGHLY recommend! I am not a fan of stouts as a class (Oddly they are my favorite to brew) But I would say th the best I have ever had.

The pelican pub and brewery is located in pacific city just a few short miles drive from lincoln city or cloverdale. the pub and brewery are currently under remodel/construction and should be done in june, They are still open but will not be giving tours of the brewery. I would highly recommend stopping in if you ever get the chance. Great beer and great food.

Indian pelican ale

The winner in this group is the IPA. WOW!

This beer has me rethinking every IPA recipe I have ever written.

The IPA had the benifit of coming strait from the draft in the pub.

The beer pours a pale amber with a reddish hue and a white head that disapates quickly but still leaves a great belgian lace.

Aroma is citrus, pineapple, grapefruit and hints of carmel malt

In this beer the hops are the main event. The flavor is a rich citrus almost like drinking hop tea, The malt/hop ratio weighs on the hops but still remains balanced and smooth. A smooth finish lives a pleasent reminder of cascade hops. The bitterness is high but not overwelming.

I am assuming this beer is dry hopped in order to achieve this balance.

Both Beer Advocate and the Rogue website categorize Dead Guy as a Maibock, though Rogue specifically says they use an ale yeast in the beer - Maibock being a lager in definition.

BA reveals a 6.5 ABV and Rogue gets more specific with Plato degrees and attenuation, if you're better with equations than I...
