King of Beers, Truly.

What do you consider to be "King of Beers",
be it a specific type, style, or brand. And its not A.B. Bud!

It's tough to pick just one, so choose more then one if you'd like, and have fun.

I'll start with a few of my "Kings"

Bell's Expedition Stout
Allagash Tripple
Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Oscar's Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
Mackeson XXX Stout
Victory V-ten
Lev Lion Pale Double Bock
Old Growler English Porter
Hair of the Dog -Adam- Hearty Old World Ale
Alaskan Pale
Bell's Cherry Stout
Maudite

Well, that should be enough for now.
I guess I like stouts? Who new?
Cheers
jef

I think if I were going to make a certain style 'King' I would go with Russian Imperial Stout. Almost everyting pales(pun might be intended) in comparison to a well done RIS.

If I were to name a beer King, I might just go with Stone's Double Bastard(even though it's not a RIS) I think it would reign as king of the hill against all comers! I wouldn't actually name Double Bastard's style as king because there are so many beers in the ultra hoppy category that are unbalanced in flavor.

Hey,
No excuses! I live in NC, and we have a 6% cap. Whenever I want big beers, I drive close to 3 hours to Richmond Va... Needless to say I usually spend close to 300 dollars at a time.

3 trips a year x 300 dollars + occasional 'special' case shipments = beerinator

Beer delivery?

Hey paul84043,

Try http://www.horsebrass.com/belmont_station/bst_map.html

to find what your looking for and the should be able to deliver
in your area, check out. It's best to call them to find out.

Oh, and thanks for reminding me beerinator,
I totally forgot about double bastard, good call.

That could hail as "King" with much style and dare I say
arrogance.

Thanks for the link!! It's a very interesting approach they take.
I'll give them a call...the worst that could happen is that "someone" intercepts my beer and "disposes of it properly"...

We do what Beerinator does, drive out of state (to Wyoming), but it's risky and gas is expensive...

A few years ago there were a couple of Utah Highway Patrol officers that got arrested by Wyoming Highway Patrol, they drove over the border and were "spotting" for some troopers on the Utah side of the border pulling people over, writing tickets and "disposing of the beer properly"...

It was VERY FUNNY!!!!!

I think it's BS for them to bother you if you're just buying for your own consumption.
Like Beerinator, it's typically 200 to 300$ at a time, and I still can't find the cool beers like Arrogant Bastard.

The King of beers.......

No question here Budwe.... bzzzzzzzztt.....

Sweetwater Exodus Porter.

She is the gold medal winner of the Great American Beer festival 2002 (not that really means a hill of beans) for brown porter.

Anyone that can get their hands on this beer needs to try it. While one man's treasure is another man's trash (I know the quote is slightly modified,) this beer actually made the word "wow" come out of my mouth when I first tasted it. I am not really even a big fan of most porters, but I have never set my lips upon my favorite pils glass as lovingly as I did with this liquid silk inside of it. My first taste of this beer is my best beer experience yet.

King of Beers

As far as styles are concerned it is a personal toss-up between Stout and Porter as it depends on my mood and/or the food I am eating. Among those I will list a few of my favorites:

Alaskan Smoked Porter
Mackeson XXX
Brooklyn Brewery's Double Chocolate Stout
Rogue's Mocha Porter / Shakespeare Stout
Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter / Imperial Stout

Excellent choices!
Haven't had the AK Smoked, but some great porters I've had are the Purkuno's Hammer by Heavyweight, Summit Great Northern Porter and the Stone Smoked Porter which I just had and it was ggrreat!

Rogue's Mocha Porter is good, but the Imperial Stout is a step up, Shakespeare Stout and their Chocolate Stout's are tops as well. Along with the fabulous I2PA, which just plain rocks your "hop" palette.

Brooklyn Dbl. Chocolate is awesome. I can't get it here, but I acquired it in a trade and was very thankful, yum!

Haven't had Mackeson in awhile, but its always been excellent.

I also think some of the Barleywines out there need to be recognized-

Arrogant Bastard, which gets alot of attention and deservedly so.

Bell's Third Coast Old Ale - My personnal favorite! Hmmmm....earth!

Hair of the Dog - Doggie Claws, what heavy caramel candied sweetness and downablity!
