My husband and I had a beer at the Duke of Perth, 2913 N. Clark, in Chicago, today. It's a spendid little Scottish pub with some nice draughts. From Scotland they have Tennenent's Lager, McEwan's Export Ale, Belhaven Wee Heavy and Belhaven Twisted Thistle. From England they have Fuller's London Pride, Young's Oatmeal Stout and Strongbow Hard Cider. Ken had the Wee Heavy and thinks it is fantastic. I had the Twisted Thistle, and again it is excellent. The pub is small, but with a great atmosphere. The food reportedly is wonderful, too. I highly recommend it.
(On the other hand, perhaps Richard shouldn't go there. On their menu they listed their bottled beers from Scotland, Ireland, and Englandshire, which they said is a small country south of Scotland.;) )

Wonder if they have the Calidonian or Schiehallen brews?

I suspect the bar is owned by a Scot. The Scots are very chauvinistic and do not like the English very much. England is bigger than Scotland (although Scotland is bigger than many people realise) and England is far more wealthy and populous. Around 80% of the population of the UK are English; the Scots comprise less than 10%.
Scotland was a beer desert for many years but there's been a significant revival recently and they now brew some fine ales.
By coincidence I had a couple of pints of Belhaven myself yesterday evening in The Cowdray Arms - a good beer.

Two noteable quotes from visits to Scotland:
From a taxi driver: "The English are shiite", sentiments NOT shared by occupants, but memorable nonetheless
From a rugby player at a post match drink-up: "Bellhaven gives me the winds"

Richard is right. There are now some fine beers coming out of Scotland but I managed to find a couple of decent brews there back in 89. I found the Rose Street Brewery in Edinburgh. I have a photo somewhere of me drinking in some pub that had punks as bartenders. They looked the part but were nice guys.
Scotland is a beautiful country and makes another fine drink aside from beer.

I thought my post might stimulate a response from Richard. ;)
Yes, Chaz, they had some fine scotch, as well, at this pub. I don't know a lot about scotch, but my husband was quite impressed with it.

They also have all you can eat fish and chips on Wed and Fri- and a very nice patio for the summer months- if I remeber corectly there is a nice sized weaping cherry in the middle of the patio that is very pretty in the spring.

Agreed. I believe snow for Easter is not out of the realm of possibility either.
