View Full Version : bottling is a pain in the ass...

like the title says. I bottled my first batch today, and I had a hell of a time. I tried the method of starting the flow in "How to Brew", where you keep some sanitizer in the tube, and drain it as the racking cane tip goes into the beer. That worked for all of about 2 seconds, and then the beer stopped halfway up the tube. I did a big no-no by sucking the air out with my mouth, but at least that got the flow started. The tube continually got air in it....it was just a big mess. Eventually, I got the beer into the bottles, and the ordeal was over. What did I do wrong, exactly?

You didn't use a bottling bucket with a bottle filler? That is by far the easiest way. Fairly inexpensive too.

Also, I would invest in an Auto-Siphon. It makes the job of starting a siphon so much easier. That is, when you’re racking into your bottling bucket of course.

Definitly an Auto-siphon. I think I spent $14 on mine, but it is worth every penny, and then some.

Bottling is not a pain in the ass. A rectal examine is a pain in the ass while bottling is just not fun.

you do have a point there.

i'll have to stop by my LHBS and see if they have any auto-siphons.

I guess that depends on how you're capping the bottles.

I'm not judging, I'm just saying that if your butt hurts from bottling, then you might consider doing it differently.

I can't believe it. A goalie made a good joke. I guess everyone gets lucky once in awhile.

Goalies crack good jokes all of the time, it's just the rest of you are too not a goalie to get it.
