View Full Version : Dogfish 90 minute IPA
I am drinking it right now. When I opened the bottle, I could not believe the smell of hops. It was like I had a handful of fresh hops. Very resiny on the nose. The "ridiculous" amount of malt really stands up to hops. Suprisingly, at 9% ABV, the alcohol flavor is not over powering. I am not a big IPA fan, but this is a great beer. Another great beer from a great brewery. Now I can't wait to try Heavyweight's Imperial Pale Ale on Saturday.

I have to agree with everything you said about the 90, AXXE. I had my first 90 last weekend. A little over a month ago I had the 60 min and was very impressed with the hop nose on this beer. Then I found the 90 min! Everything the 60 had and more. The body is awesome; the balance is great.
I didn't know that Heavyweight has an Imperial Pale Ale...new brew for them? I'll have to be on the lookout...
The Heavyweight Imperial Pale Ale is going to be draught only. I know the Blind Tiger in NYC, Andy's in Bogota, NJ, and another place in Philly are going to have it on tap. They are unveiling it to the world at an open house on Sat. If you are local, you should go to the open house. It is from 1-4 pm Sat 8/2. I will probably be getting there during the later half.

Get it while you can. I think this is part of the new OneTimeOnePlace (http://www.realbeer.com/news/articles/news-001968.php) program, in which Heavyweight produces one seven-barrel batch that goes to just seven bars in its distribution area.
According to a company press release the next in the OTOP series will be an assertive dark wheat beer brewed with 3 wheat malts and fermented with a Belgian ale yeast; code-named: Triticum Bock.
Prosit,
Stan
That's right. Each bar will be getting a different beer over the next few months.

The Blind Tiger in Manhattan, Half Time Beverage in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Andy's Corner Bar in Bogota, N.J. , The Abbaye in Philadelphia, Pa., Fatheads in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Redbones in Somerville, Ma., were selected to receive the RPA.
Prosit,
Stan

if you like "imperial" IPA's than make sure to try to find BIG A IPA from smuttynose (out of NH). This stuff is fantastic, much better than last years release. in fact i think that this is the best big IPA i have had, even better than 90-min (although a smaller beer at just over 7%abv). this is a must try, esp with its beer value (great beer and only 3.99 a bomber)

That sounds good! Go check out my thread on my CO trip and see if there's anything I can bring back for you. I'd love to try some of that IPA! Do Bombers travel well?

quantum, do you know if this is in a limited distribution area? I get all of the 12 oz. Smutty's in NJ (nice beers all around -- love the Shoal's Pale Ale), but i've never seen the bombers...
and while we're on the subject of limited release beers, anyone try the Magic Hat limited IIPA? I think it's called Hi-P.A. and it's in bombers...just curious...

im not sure about the distribution of the big beer series (a new beer about every 2 months, check the web page). i usually get most of them, but the last offering was a maibock that i never saw in NY or VT. i never did figure out why that was. as far as the magic hat, HiPA, i have had it and it was pretty good, very drinkable mildly hoppy, but certainly not great.
