Hello everybody!

I've been searching for a convenient place to get kegs of good, (relatively) inexpensive beer without driving too far. I live in Arlington, VA, in Clarendon. We're having a house party this Sat., like we do every month or two, and I usually use Dixie Liquors in DC because it's only 5 min. away from my house (just over the Key Bridge in Georgetown). There are no Total Wine stores close to me; can anyone recommend other options?

Second question is, one of my roommates doesn't like Pale Ales (or, presumably anything that tastes like a Pale Ale). I'm trying to figure out what's the best beer I can get in a keg, that's not a Pale Ale, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. :) So far we've had Stella Artois, Dos Equis Amber, Redhook ESB and Widmer Hefeweisen. Not the greatest beers perhaps, but waaay above Bud/Miller IMHO. Yuengling and Killian's are really cheap, but I don't like them as much. Other ideas? I guess I'm looking for a Lager or Amber or Red that's popular enough to be available and not too too expensive.

Thanks in advance guys (and gals)!! ;)

check out Old Dominion, they have some nice stuff and are local too.

theres a total beverage on Duke street that can order you kegs, so the options go way up.

worth givin em a call,

Actually, I just found a really good source for kegs in Ballston: a tiny corner store on Washington Blvd & Stuart called Arlington Market. Has all kinds of Dominion beers, and about 100 keg beers available total. As long as you get your keg order into them by noon Thur., they'll have your keg(s) for you for Fri/Sat night. This is my first time getting kegs from them; I'll let you guys know how it turns out! :)

They've got a bunch of different beers; I went with Smithwick's ($136) and PBR ($60). Deposits were $50 for each keg and $10 for each tap, and you could take as long as you wanted to return them. They only accept Visa and MC though.

As for my experience, the guy was pretty nice and helpful; he even called their distributor to see if they could get Warsteiner for me (they couldn't). On the down side, the Smithwick's tap kept getting loose while people were pumping the keg, so it needed to be constantly re-tightened and occasionally re-tapped. When I told the guy about it while returning the kegs, he was sympathetic but didn't offer to do anything about it. I wasn't mad about it; it was more an annoyance than anything that prevented us from drinking the beer.

I would go back here again; they're more organized than Dixie Liquor, and they have almost as many beers available (maybe just as many). If I lived closer to a Total Wine store, I might go there instead. Oh, and like Dixie, you don't have to order your weekend kegs until Thursday! :-)

Arlington Market
1144 N Stuart St
Arlington, VA 22201
703-351-6121
open til 11pm on weekends

The best way to get their keg price sheet is to call them and have them fax it to you.

keep an eye on the board there are a few local places that are really good, the and at some point 15 minutes and 30 minutes are close enough. keep an eye out for "Norms" postings by Chaz they can get all kinds of local brewerys. and have a huge list of kegs available, the total wine is also really good and I've run into dogfish tastings there and they can get 1/6 kegs there ( thats where I got the Punkin that ispirration for my avatar)

I live in your area, and the total wine in MClean can't be more than 15 minutes away really, just take glebe road to old dominion then turn left at chain bridge road and go about a block.

If you're in McLean, you're really close to Norm's. If you stop in the store, be sure to sign up for the email list.

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know of there is keg delivery in the Arlington area? I'm looking for a place that will deliver kegs to my house. This would be the ultimate service.

Thanks.

I just moved to Arlington, and took the recommendations of Arlington Market, since its just around the corner from me. They can get kegs very quickly, but it seemed pricey, although thats compared to what im used to from college.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone know of a place I can get co2 from near here?

We just ran out during the party.

I get mine at a Roberts Oxygen out in Sterling near where I work. Looks like there is one in Fairfax as well (http://www.robertsoxygen.com/)

Bars by Bud in Merrifield also has food grade CO2. Plus anything else that you may need for your kegerator or bar.
