I am on my way to a sweet little set up. I have the 13.8 c.f. chest freezer sitting in the basement. Just ordered up the draft system from Midwest. Hopefully nextbatch can go right in the keg!
Next up is to make the chest look like a bar. Wife says it shoudl like furniture if it wants to stay in the basement (finished). I think I am just going to make a cover for it and have the back exposed so it is easy to mover around. I have seen examples of it being totaly encased - very cool but I think I will do both, make a colar and encase it. I don't like the idea of drilling holes in the freezer.
Just thought I would share my news!!!

I'm jealous.
My wife also told me that I can't have it unless it looks like furniture, but I might not get started with it for a while.

It was enough motivation for me. Draft beer AND a bar. The superbowl will never be so good!

I bought my wife a 75 bottle wine cellar for the dining room. She wanted me to case it in wood to match the furniture. Last April I bought myself a 13.8 cu/ft and cased it in oak plywood. Of course I got unholy hell about "why you do stuff for yourself you won't do for me". Babe, I had to practice on my freezer that sits in the garage before I tackle a piece that sits in the dining room. Of course she didn't buy it but she hasn'tr said anym, ore about her wine cellar.

Well, there's always wood-grain contact paper, Hogie!

Congrats Dirt. Nothing like having a nice draft system. It changed the way I drink beers at my beach place.

I am pretty psyched. Not to mention the ease of using kegs instead of bottling.
Now the important question. What should be the first batch to go in the new system. Something simple, traditional. I have been making a lot of stout lately so maybe a nice brown ale.

That's my kind of thinking! However, the wife wants some sort of door/lock to cover the taps. She says her biggest concern is future children, but I think she doesn't want people to think I'm absolutely mad when they see a row of taps in the corner of the dining room.

My wife has asked that I remove some of my brewerania from the living room-she says it looks like a bar. She makes wreaths out of old wine corks and they hang in the living room-that's OK. So I'm down to one shelf of steins.
