View Full Version : What beer would you celebrate with?

In my short time being here, I have seen threads dealing with bomb shelter beers, and all other sorts of "if you had too..." situations.
Well here's another one. Seeing as how Lance Armstrong has just one his fifth Tour de France victory and is celebrating right now, it made me wonder what I would celebrate with if I was in his situation. The normal choice would probably be champagne, however for the sake of this thread, lets say that you can have a keg of whichever beer you could choose to celebrate your victory with.
What would that beer be?
For me, I would have to go with a keg of Fullers 1845 Celebration Ale. Heck, the name even fits!! :D

This is not as easy as it sounds. Am I celebrating a win with my hockey team or the end of the work week. I'll answer as though my wife and I are celebrating together so it would be Brooklyn Monster.

Oh, I misunderstood the question the first time. Well since my wife would be there it would be Brooklyn Monster.

I almost always prefers porters and stouts, but if I am going to celebrate than I am going to want to drink quite a bit and those two choices can get a bit "thick" after a time. So....I am rather stuck between Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale and Bellhaven Scottish Ale (their US Wee Heavy version). I would probably lean towards the Bellhaven because it has more balance between the hops and the malt, it is smooth going down, and is a beer I could drink for hours. I love the Celebreation Ale, but I think I could do without the hoppiness of an IPA in the long term.

i don't want to miss an opportunity to plug my favorite brewpub, Magnolia Pub & Brewery in San Francisco, and since i just had it this weekend:
i'd celebrate with their Proving Ground Pale, a 100 IBU, 7.0% monster. and it's really amazing on cask.
(they also have a fascinating seasonal on right now: "Nuptial Ale", made with yarrow flowers.)
of course, this, like many of the other "which ONE would you choose" questions, is tough to impossible: i mean, if you made me choose a single STATE's brews, well, maybe i could do that. (and it would be california, hands down, but that's like saying i'd choose california if it were for, say, produce or wine. so, to be fair, uhhhh, the next in line: Wisconsin.)

I agree that Belhaven Wee Heavy is a very nice beverage. However, if I were celebrating something, I think that I would go with either Old Peculier or McEwan's Scotch Ale, or perhaps even Erdinger Dunkel Weiss. I could see myself drinking entire kegs of these brews and still wanting more.

I haven't had the pleasure of trying either of those yet, but I'll be sure to check them out. Thanks.

I'd have to pick the original celebration beer (for the wedding anniversary of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese); Spaten Oktoberfest. Prosit!

I guess in Lance's case it should be "Victory Hopdevil" fitting choice and a great beer.

I'd have to celebrate a victory with VICTORY,
probably Hop Devil, although the Prima Pils
would be nice for a session...

If I were Lance I'd celebrate with Arrogant Bastard, 'cause if I won the tour 5 times in a row I'd be feeling a little arrogant...

Once he makes it back to Austin he should celebrate with a nice Hefe from local brewery Live Oak.

Let's see, if I was Lance, I would celibrate with Bud or Bud Light. Lord know's he's probibly dehidryated, and needs the water.
But knowing Lance as I do (not at all), he probibly would drink anything - as long as they sponcered him.

although i agree with fid on the stone , i might go with a ruination instead of the arrogant bastard....but they're both damn fine beers.
at my wedding reception when it was time to do the toast we were going to toast with a bottle of speedway stout from the alesmith, but the best man didn't bring the bottle!!! so i ran out and got a bottle of CHIMAY Grand Reserve (blue)...not a bad recovery huh??? i wasn't trying to do the champagne thang.

Since Lance could probably use some calories after that long bike ride, I would go with a mix of Young's Chocolate Stout, and Lindemann's Kriek Lambic. Mmm, chocolate-covered cherries.... just desserts! :D

When I lived in So. Cal, we would Celebrate Christmas by taking bread, cheese, olives and Arrogant Bastard to the Wild Animal Park and sit watching the wildebeests and eat our lunch.
Ok. Remind me why I left So. Cal!

I am a big fan of porter and stout. That said, I think they would tend to weigh heavy during a celebration. So, I would start of by drinking one pint of Fuller's London Porter. Then, I would go with Arrogant Bastard or Rogue Dead Guy Ale.

At my wedding we served New Glarus' Apple Ale instead of champagne. I miss that beer, I wish they still made it. Let me tell you, it turned a few people on to craft beer that night!

It seems I do most of my celebrating around Christmas time. There is definitely one beer I enjoy at that time more than any other---Our Special Ale from Anchor Brewing.
Cheers ---- SierraMan

LOL! You got that right.
Well, I'm celebrating right now. My kids are all away at camp and I'm enjoying a little peace and quiet with a Stone IPA.
