Please send some beer to the Randi Rhodes radio personality: she says the best beer in the world is Michelob.
MICHELOB. sweet merciful... she's a nationally syndicated GRINGO radio personality. MICHELOB.
Please.
I'm from Halifax: I respect the magnificence of beer.
I'm begging you... couldn't British beer companies arrange to have the beerstores deliver some real beer to her show? She could have a taste-off.
Come on... you can't let gringos get away with that!! Please, please FEDEX the woman a 6-pack & a couple of shirts for her blog.
Its a bloody travesty. On air. The poor woman has no idea what she's done to herself.
This is a UK beer reputation at stake here.
Yours Pseudonymously,

My first impression is: What makes you so sure that there isn't a single good AMERICAN beer that could change her mind about Pickleob? PLENTY of "real beer" here in "the states".

Can't say I've ever heard of her, and I listen to a lot of talk radio.
You may be playing right into her hands... maybe she 's just trying to get folks to send her free beer!

I see she broadcasts on CBC.
Contact Vicki Gabereau and have her give Randi a talking to. (Didn't Vicki have an x at the end of her name 20 years ago?)

Sad commentary on the state of talk radio and it's hosts.;)

She said it was the best beer. Maybe it is the best at stripping glue off of floors and walls.

She's a pretty intelligent and interesting lefty, I listened to her on Air America a lot, but she obviously doesn't know squat about beer.

I thought Randy Rhodes was the late guitarist for Ozzy...:D
I guess he would prefer "Dead Guy Ale", then....

To most people, gringo is a derisive term that means "white foreigner" when it actually just means "stranger/foreigner" from any race or place. Not sure how it was meant here.
And getting bent about what some radio personality thinks is "best" isn't worth the time. I agree, the segment of the show could've been sponsored by Michelob. Or she really could think that Michelob is the best tasting beer around - whether it's because she hasn't been exposed to anything better or doesn't have a taste for flavorful beer.
Cheers!

"Gringo" comes from the Mexican-American war. American soldiers wore green uniforms at the time, and were referred to as "green coats" by the Mexican army. Hispanic pronounciation being what it is, "green coat" was turned into "gringo" and it stuck. The mexicans tend to use it to define americans, and it's not the most polite terminology there. The term is only used for Americans, not anyone of European descent.
However, my wife grew up in Honduras using the term "gringo" for ANY American, and it wasn't thought of as derogatory at all; it was simply a term for them (us?) much as "catracho" is used to refer to a Honduran. Of course, the Hondurans still use the term "Sambos" to describe Black folks native to an area of Honduras known as Sambo Creek. (She says she gets the feeling the area was named by Gringos. ;) )

No, she's a lunatic fringe buffoon.
I wouldn't worry about her beer comment. She has an audience of about 3 people.

Boy - this is an OLD thread. I don't think you have to worry about actively ignoring her - I think we just don't care! :)

Oh, and I've read that the "green coats" etymology is a myth, but who knows
