Newbie to brewing here and maybe a dumb question? Should I get some kinda sugar drops from NB to put in the bottles when bottleing to have carbonation or is this not necessary? I have a beer kit I've orderd and a book coming how to brew but have been wondering about this a while. Thanks

Chris

That's one way to go, Chris - another is to simply dissolve 3/4 cup corn sugar into your bottling bucket (that's if you're making a 5 gallon batch). If you do it right it's much simpler than using primatabs (I think that's what they're called; if not, I'm close). Best of luck!

It has been my experience that the priming sugar comes in the kit.You boil it and a cup of water, cool it and put it in your bottling bucket. When you siphon from the fermenter or carboy the sugar solution gets very wellmixed in.

Some of us use DME, dried malt extract, instead of sugar to prime our bottles. The packet of sugar in the kit is most likely labeled priming sugar. Priming is the term given to adding sugar or DME to the beer so that it will carbonate.

If you use DME, the amount for 5 gals is 1 1/4 cup.

IIRC, Brewer's Best kits came with more priming sugar than needed, so don't use the whole bag, measure it out.

He said in another thread it's a Northern Brewer Dry Stout kit.
NB gives 5 oz == 3/4 cup corn sugar in every kit (unless you go out of your way to tell them NOT to).

I guess it would be this kit (http://www.northernbrewer.com/alekits.html) (scroll down to Dry Stout).

Looks like a good one to me.

Brewdog I orderd the sweet stout from Northern brewer. I have always loved stouts so I figured why not try making it. Have yall made this sweet stout before? and if so how was it?
