Please explain. 3L is 3L. Even if you had six 3L bottles, that's 18L. Seven 3L bottles is 21L. Where do you get 20L? Either way, enjoy!

Cheers!

I saw those at BevMo, the price for the oaked bastard was $60. I then thought of all the bombers I could get for $60 and decided to pass.

I've bought them in previous years. I usually take them to a breweriana club get together we have in January. It's nice to share.

My brother in law and I will be sharing a magnum or two of anchor xmas ale this holiday. We bought a 6er a week ago that went down really smooth. Funny thing is that I brewed a pumpkin ale this year that tastes very similar to the anchor xmas in the way that it's spiced. I'd say mine has a similar malt and spice character, but with a less than subtle pumpkin aroma and flavor on top. Oh, on the subject of pumpkin ale, I tried the Buffalo Bill pumkin ale that they're selling in stores around here and it's terrible. Tastes almost medicinal it's got way too many spices in it and no body to back it up.

Does it really have the little lock on it? That's too cool.

How the heck do you chill something like that? Wait for a storm to come by first?

I would throw it in my lagering freezer.. I'd have to let it warm back up when I was ready to drink it, but that's ok...

That's a good description... I found it very metallic and thin... Last years' batch? Hmmm...

Back on track... I say that's excellent. I plan on filling my growler on the 30th for New Years. I already have the AB Special Reserve so with 2 liters of the Double I would say I have enough. Cheers!! Oh yeah, I also wanna see the 20 liter trick with 3 liter bottles.

Sounds bit like that problem where you have a 5 gallon jug and a 2 gallon jug and you need to get exactly 3 gallons. :)

Also, your abbreviation of (A)rrogant (B)astard is a dangerous one. I was thinking to myself, AB has a special reserve? What is that, like Bud Select in a special holiday bottle? Then of course, I came back to my senses and realized what we were talking about in this thread.

AB doesn't have anything special under Bud but they do have something from Michelob. It's called"Celebrate" and it's Michelob that was aged in oak boubon barrels. I feel just as most of you do about AB but I had to try this. I'm still trying to figure out who they got to make this for them because IT ACTUALLY HAS FLAVOR! They said they added vanilla beans and you can definitely taste them. That plus the oak tannins give it a very interesting flavor. Not something I'd want to drink all the time but still interesting. I was SHOCKED!

Actually, AB has a Private Reserve (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/26900/) - so you're not too far off. Seems like only the Alstrom brothers really like it, so I'm not too anxious to open my bottle now. (Nothing against them, but theirs certainly seems to be a minority opinion.)

Welcome to the board. I hope this might be the light at the end of a long tunnel for AB. Perhapse they will start to make a range of beers that is asgood as they are capable of.

I think that one is different. Not sure but the AB distributor around here (Western New York state) would have that one out there if it was available to them and this definitely says Michelob on the box it comes in. Still, is this telling at all that AB wants some of the micro market? I went to St. Louis last summer on business and my boss and I had time to kill until our flight back so we went on the AB tour. Hell of a set up when you figure what kind of swill they make normaly.

Thanks for the welcome. I did see from another thread that you are big on brewriana. If you should come across anything in your travels from the St. Mary Brewery in St. Marys, PA I might be interested. I already have a tray and a bottle label but I'm sure there's more out there.

I probably have some labels. I've been to the Straub brewery in St. Marys a number of times over the years. I'll keep an eye out.
