I understand on how you use the chanpagne corks but what I'd like to know is, Went you insert the cork into the bottle, Do you insert it all the way to the top of the bottle rim & then put the wire on & eventually the cork push on up to the top of the wire top on its own? Or do you only insert the cork in halfway into the bottle? The reason I ask is because with a corker, it will put the cork all the way in. Please help me. Thanks
I am referring to the champagne corks that can be either pushed in or used with a wine corker. NOT the plastic champagne corks.

If I understand your question, then the corks you refer too are wine corks and not champagne corks. Champagne corks are mushroom shaped and the bulbous part cannot be pushed in even with the rim. Wine corks on the other hand are not really designed to be used with a wire cage since they are designed to be fully inserted.

If you are making champagne, you might want to look into the process of disgorging

sorry cdjlsand, I don't know the answer to your question, but welcome to the forum!

when using champagne corks, you need to have the right corker. The bottom of the mushroom gets compressed and is slid into the nexck of the bottle. Then when it is let go the mushroom expands and thus seals the bottle. The cage is put on after the cork is in place and fully inserted.
hope that answers the question

champagne corks are NOT mushroomed, at least not when you insert them into the bottles. They are very big though, like 1 1/2" around.
I am talking about cork corks and not the plastic corks.
You do need to have a corker that will handle a cork of that size and you can set them to only insert the cork so far. As for if you are suposed to or if you should let the cork push back up. I don't know, I've only used the plastic ones. I would think that letting the pressure push the cork back up would be a neat way to do it thought :D and I think it would work.
