In just under 3 months, I have reached my goal of 200 POSTS, and you're looking at the 200th! I would like to thank my keyboard for putting up with me, my wife for sticking by my side even when she would rather we were doing something else, and, of course, all of YOU out there who gave me something to comment upon and also commented upon what I had to say. As a celebration of this momentus occasion, I raise my pint of Sierra Nevada Porter and toast all of you. SALUD! :D

congrats, now you can never post again, lest your posts no longer show the illustious "two-oh-oh"... :D either that or you'll just have to post 100 more at once to get to 300.

I just realized that I have over 100 posts, this being 110. I don't how much this means though because there was no post zero. Does this mean post 109 the milestone or will it be post 111?

fretlessman71

It's not like the MILLENIUM or anything... JEEZ, people!;)

Yes, I know, I started this, but of COURSE there isn't a "post zero".... there was no "year zero" either, but that's why the millenium was complete at the END of that year. Therefore, at the end of your post you have earned the new post number. Don't make this harder than it is! The administrators have a hard enough time making sure I don't use any profane language in any of my posts....... SHEESH.... ;)

I thought that we all so a retty good job of making the administrators job easy. I thought we were doing a great job of being clean so lets give them some work. I do understand the thought behind your thread. I could not believe that I had posted as much as I have. This site is fun, informative, and thought provoking. Who could ask for more? In my book you people are great. BEER CAN BR FOOD BUT FOOD CAN NEVER BE BEER.

Now that migt give the administrators a little more work that they desire and to my knowledge none of the pick up lines posted has produced anyone to help along those lines so let us have a beer.

I agree on the coolness of this site and the community of beerlovers who post here.

I checked the members list and sorted by date and it looks like the admin started this particular incarnation 11-14-2002. Don't know if it existed in another form before that...

...and bring on the gratuitous nudity! ;) Just not in a macroswill commercial...

You are correct, this board started mid-November, 2002. You can imagine how busy we are working on the rest of the site, so we don't often get time to post here as much as we'd like. We try to keep an eye on the board to make sure things are staying on-topic but we believe that this is a great community of people and that you will take care of each other. You certainly don't need us to keep your engaging dialog going!

Good job to everyone who has participated in making the beer community a better place.

I would like to thank the admin for presenting us with such a great community on the web. I also give a hats off to my fellow members for their continued involement with this site. After visiting some other sites all I can say is that they are just dust on the dresser compared to this site.

i've been on other site's and the conversations just aren't as in depth as they are here, i've learned a lot from just about everyone on this site. it's a great place to call home!

Fret started this thread when he hit post # 200. Well this is my 200th post. I have to say that since I have been on this board I have learned a lot and certainly enjoy participating. I used to belong to another beer board in the days before the internet when you subscribed to services such as Prodigy. This board is every bit as fun as that one was. Lew Bryson was one of the posters on that board too. Anyway, I have enjoyed it. Now where is the originator of this thread. Have not seen any posts from Fret in a while. You out there Fret?

Hey guys! Chazwicke, congrats on your 200th post! Sorry I've been AWOL for awhile; travelling, computer problems, job changes, life, etc., etc., have all contributed to my inability to be as active on this board as I was during the summer. Hoping this will change with the gift I got for our 1st YEAR ANNIVERSARY (WOOHOO!) - a Brewer's Best Homebrew Kit! I'm going to get my feet wet by bottling some extract root beer - yes, ROOT beer - so I can get the feel of all of the equipment before I try something a little more serious. (Besides, my wife likes root beer, so this gets her in on the action a little more.)

I'm thrilled that everyone is still talking about what a great site this is... and I can't help feeling a little honored that there were more than a few of you wondering just what in the #%@& happened to me! As my old friend Rasputin once said - and he's been quoted by so many - "Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!"

*sniff*

Well, first I have to thank chazwicke, for being the first to congratulate me.

Honorable mention has to go to the auto-siphon, and MoreBeer! for many wonderful links.

And I will spare you all the gratuitous nudity, at least until I can make some of my beer gut disappear. :p

Happily, I will celebrate my 200th by bottling my own very first, all-original recipe. I should know the full results within about 2 weeks...

I remember my great uncle (rest in peace) told me, I was about 10 years old, when I asked about his big beer gut that "I'm having a baby elephant" and "Do you want to see his trunk?" It was friggin' hilarious. He was one of the first guys to give me beer - out on the lake fishing.

Yep - you guessed it. Been playing bass just a little longer than I've been drinking beer (about 20 years).

BTW, you can change your tag line in the same place you can add your quote at the bottom of your post.... and yours is very cool!

Cheers to the beer loving base players. I too have about 23 years doing both. I allways wanted a fretless just never got around to getting one. What got you into this crazy brewing thing? People think I'm nuts for doing it. I see it as an extention of art. It's almost like writting a song in a wierd kind of way. You start with a idea and never really know what the result is until you drink it (or record it). That's probably what keeps me doing it

psst.... you spelled "bass" wrong.... that's a cardinal sin, but we'll forgive you this time...

There's a certain level of improvising that goes on with each one, I suppose. I'm a VERY new brewer and haven't had enough experience with it to get really good (my first batch is in the big plastic bin awaiting a possible "bottlebomb" incident), so I can't really compare the two. I got into brewing because I got tired of not being able to find the beer I wanted to drink and also because it's a lot cheaper this way. It's also FUN. Now if my 1st batch turns out to be a total dud, I may not be as enthused about a 2nd, but I'm sure I'll have the moral support of the folks here at realbeer.com to back me up and rekindle my confidence!

vbonato
12-12-2003, 12:06 PM
I can tell you this much: Be patient. The tast changes from the first bottle (if you are bottling) to the next. If it's not that good, wait a month and try another bottle. Magic happens in there. Are you using extract? or are you doing it the hard way?

fretlessman71
12-12-2003, 12:15 PM
The main thing I'm worried about is having bottle bombs - I think I overprimed it. In a week I'll test one, and if it seems like they're all about to blow maybe I'll recap them just to be safe.

vbonato
12-12-2003, 12:35 PM
Just curious.. did you use corn sugar? anymore than a cup for 5 gal might be risky. They sometimes bomb when the bacteria gets in there. I sterilize everything really good. That's like the #1 thing. It's a pain in the ass but worth all the effort. After you bottle, check them in a week or 2 and periodically for a fine ring that will form on the top in the neck. If you see that, you probably have a bomb or at the very least some bad beer. Odly enough, you could still drink it if you wanted too. No known pathogens can live in mature beer ( so I hear).Good luck. I'll be looking forward to see how you made out

fretlessman71
12-12-2003, 12:41 PM
Thanks for the tip! Now I can be proactive about this and try to "head 'em off at the pass", if you will. I'll keep you posted!

Oh, yeah... I just looked, and the package just says "dextrose."

vbonato
12-12-2003, 12:49 PM
yeah, that's corn sugar. I use that or I use more sterile wort or extract. The later gives more flavor but the corn sugar is the easiest to measure correctly if your not working from a kit. If we somehow happen to keep in touch, I'll send you a bottle of my next batch. I'm going to try for this weekend to start

But the best MB movie is the Producers. Classic!

Salut All.

This site ROCKS! I'm going to assume that you're nowhere near Senior status outside of this board, so of course you should go into your profile and change it. Beer Maven is good.... Beer Matriarch? No, that puts you back in Senior status... Beer Babe? Heck, I don't know... just do something cool! And a weekly radio spot talking about a beer is such a fantastic idea that if you do such a thing, I'll try to find a way to stream your station on my computer so I can hear it! :)

HA HA HA HA..... "BEERONESS".... PERFECT! :D

And hey, this wasn't MY idea... I was just reiterating the thoughts of others on the board re your "status name" and the beer show. It'd be a great step in the right direction for us in the fight against those who still believe that beer is a heathen's drink. Very cool!

And you'd been promising that pic for some time now.... just a reminder, you know?
