another beginner question

If I rack to a secondary fermentor (23L glass carboy with airlock), how full does it have to be? Does it have to be right to the top?

I thought you are supposed to minimize the amount of oxygen, but I also don't want to dilute the beer by adding water to top it up.

If you are worried about exta air transfer while you are still getting a couple of bubbles a minute from your airlock. This will help to create a blanket of CO2 to keep the oxygen out.

simply moving the beer into the secondary will dislodge enough co2 from suspension to form a blanket over your beer. RDWHAH...
