Hello everyone. I just tried this beer from Asia called Tiger Beer and it is amazing. I ordered it off of freshdirect.com on a recommendation from a friend. It is really exotic tasting. I am completely addicted. They sell it at a bunch of bars in Manhattan. The website has a list of places its sold-www.tigerbeer.us. Definitely try this.:)

Welcome to the board. Tiger beer has been available in the States for a long time. I remember drinking it in the late 70s or early 1980s. If you enjoy it, wait until you try some even more adventuresome beers that we discuss on this board. I think you will be pleasantly suprised at how many better beers are available with flavor.

If I go near any beer with Tiger in its name, it's Everard's Tiger, a trad English Bitter. But the Indian lager is actually quite a bit better than some of the other choices in UK curry houses.

I really need to develop my palate then because I thought it tasted like sugar water with a bag of corn and low grade malt steeped in it for an hour or so.

Tiger isn't one of my favorites, but it's not bad. The only time I drink an Asian beer with any regularity is Singha (Thai beer) with Thai food. It in itself is not one of my favorites either, but it fits the food very well. Being in New York, you should have the opportunity to try some local/semi-local micro brews from your area.

They recently had an article about tiger beer either in the metro or the globe here in boston, so one of my asian friends brought a 6 pack for himself to poker night... I traded for one, because I'd never tried an asain beer, and well... I was kind of upset that I traded for one, because there really wasnt much taste at all to it. But it also followed a ipa, so I'm guessing that must have added to the lack of flavor, but I dont see myself seeking this out again

Hello Guys! Ive seen Singa advertised in my local pub and it looks quite strong for a beer am I right? So would you recommend I buy it for a try? My fav beers are usually stout eg john smith and premeum lagers eg stella artois

Hi James. If your two favourite beers are John Smith's and Stella Artois, then you probably would like Singha (don't pay too much for it though, it's not really worth it).
On the other hand, if you like John Smith's maybe you shold give something like London Pride, Greene King IPA or Young's Special a try. They are the same style, but better beers.
If you're looking for some better 'premium' lagers, you could go for some of these (you should be able to find some at Waitrose/Sainsbury's/Tesco): Freedom lager, Sierra Nevada pale ale, Anchor Steam Beer, Hoegaarden and possible Leffe Blonde.
By the way, John Smith's is an ale, not a stout. The only stouts you are likely to find in London are Guinness, Murphy's and possible Young's Oatmeal Stout and Double Chocolate Stout.

Hello Stronk! Yea the Singa is quite expensive. I will definately try it though.
I'll be keeping an eye out for London Pride, Greene King IPA and Youngs Special which my pub definately serves.
I will keep an eye out for those lagers you recommended, though I have never heard of them.
Thanks for the great advice man!
Apparently John Smiths is a bitter or I think a pale ale as well. I just looked it up

It's worth giving them a try instead of a pint of John Smith's for a bit. Gives a bit more variety.
I was stretching my knowledge with the lager recommendations, really. The truth is, the UK doesn't brew many interesting lagers.
Ale and lager are the two main types of beer. Bitter is a type of ale (as are pale ales and stouts).
