Has anyone used a brew belt? I never heard of one till tonight surfing on ebay. I was wondering if they are really useful or a way for someone to get my money.

I use one in the winter when my brew closet/pantry doesn't get above 64 degrees F. It really helps in my opinion.

i use one too, in the winter when i want to make a ale and the basement is too cold. I will sometimes have to wrap the carboy with a towel, to help the belt keep up.

I was going to buy one, but the ones my local sell can’t be used on glass carboys, only on plastic, and since I only use glass…

I bought a small space heater that I run while the ale is fermenting, works pretty well!

I have never really had a problem with temp and fermenting. Some times I have a slow ferment as I tend to keep my house cooler than most people do in the winter. I say that but I moved into a house were the boiler and water heater are in a room off the cellar and it stays at a nice fermenting temp. so I guess I"ll move brew belts to the back burner.

I use one on glass carboys even though it said not to. I've never had any problems with it. The belt heats up slow and doesn't really get hot enough to shock or break the glass. Well, mine doesn't anyway.
